This would be by far the most radical change in sports that I can think of.

The Olympics add a few relays, some niche sports, etc. And they flipped the Winter Olympics cycle, which was smart.

College basketball added 4 teams to March Madness and every conference now has a conference tournament.

MLB began and expanded interleague play and has lightly expanded the playoffs.

The NBA had no changes until the recent playoff play in games.

The NFL is adding a 17th game and one playoff spot.

None of these are all that disruptive. The college football playoffs could become a complete shitshow but even that is almost nothing compared to the terrible World Cup/continental tournament ideas being proposed now.

the only thing domestically I can think of is the that rumor that came out a few days ago about the NFL exploring expanding with 4 more teams, which IMO would water down the product to the point of it being unwatchable.

I just can’t see a scenario where compressing international schedules would benefit anyone. the players, fans, etc. I know FIFA thinks any addition will be a cash cow, but I’m not so convinced. any watering down of the importance will exponentially increase apathy. I’d be more in favor of cwills idea of adding lesser competitions(or just other ones in general) than cutting down cycle times

Using concacaf as an example, maybe there can be an octagonal but the bottom four play the poor man’s World Cup so you don’t have redundant qualifying and separate cycles for the two tiers.

I don't see how an NCAA/NIT/CBI scenario can't work. anything that runs concurrently is fine with me

I'd also make it that the winner of the poor man's world cup gets an auto invite to the next main World Cup, taking up one of its confederation's spots.

That way it incentivizes it beyond it being just a participation trophy money grab.

So this wasn’t on the live feed and don’t if it’s been shared but the anthem was fricking amazing. Enjoy

It was on ESPN+ but not other streams apparently. It was awesome hearing the crowd belt out the anthem.

Yeah it didn't show on TV because they didn't switch the football game off until right before kickoff

Wow, that was awesome! I didn't see it because I was at a high school playoff game. Impressive from both the singer to the crowd!
