Are you under the impression that the majority of this team would be called up to the A-team if best guys have a huge rash of injuries heading into the Copa America next year?

No. But this squad is an indictment of the player pool. A deep international team does not have multiple reserves and players on relegated squads who have no threat of missing a call up for a major tournament.

Y’all are saying all our second level dudes are in Europe. But what 9 MLS players were on the WC squad

How many you think are called in if it was a 23 man squad?

Roldan and Long sure as shite aren't called in considering they never played. They were clearly vibes picks for a bloated roster. Now if you want to argue the merit of vibes picks, fine, go for it.

Regardless, 9 of 26 was actually one of our lower MLS % on a World Cup roster since the league began in 1996.

Again, the MLS academies literally just started. We are just now getting to the first cycle where they are really factoring into the player pool. It's going to be more prominent from here on out, but it takes time.

Stop being a whiny bitch about it. It does no one any good. Go look at the player pools from all of the previous World Cup cycles and tell me our depth isn't getting better.

I dare you.

I recommend checking out the list of home club grown Argentinian players compared to the list of home grown Americans over the last 20 years.

Breaking news: country that routinely wins world cups is better than the US

If you want to be technical about he was a Frankfurt player by the time the WC kicked off.

That and I didn’t bring him up

Straight up: Do you think the USMNT player pool depth has gotten better, worse or no change over the decade?

Calm down friend.

I have looked at the player pool. It has promise, but we’ve had promising players come and go for a long time.

At a certain point, it comes down to what the results are. And I don’t see any difference between the national team now and the national team a decade ago in terms of results.

If we have a deep player pool, we should start to see consistent competition for spots in the squad and a solid level of play from our reserves trying to break into that main squad.

I haven’t seen that yet. Guys who had bad club seasons are still guaranteed starting places in the first team because they’re all we have.

This is a weird melt after our A team just got finished dog walking CONCACAF. There are maybe 4 guys who have a shot at the World Cup roster who just played. Maybe 2 starters. Take a deep breath.

This is the right take. Turner and Robinson for sure make a top 23. Jesus made a strong case he should be in the top 3 strikers currently. Other than that not sure anyone else would even get consideration for the 23. Maybe Reynolds.

Based on his performances against Canada and Panama - hell no. He is still miles behind Yedlin in my book. Way too many defensive lapses/consistently out of position

Now Dejuan Jones on the other hand put in some good performances in the knockouts and deserves a look at that backup LB spot going forward

Agreed.
And, I may be in the minority, but I think Busio performed lights out, and prob earned a transfer somewhere. Dude hustled every match, made great runs, was strong defensively, and was the lynchpin of our team.

Busio is still young so not giving up on him. He did seem improved over his previous USMNT appearances. Still needs to get stronger on the ball and in winning duels consistently for me to feel comfortable with him as a depth option at the 8

100% it’s gotten better

Problem is why are players from MLS still getting called up and playing in the WC and qualifying matches…..

He looked better than his last few appearances for sure. He needs a transfer to somewhere he is getting minutes. Somewhere like the Eredivisie, even a low table team, would be great for him.

There's a spot up for grabs in the 23 behind Adams and Musah.
