I always hear people saying that the NBA and/or NFL could make an amazing soccer team with all of their athletes.
So I come to the Soccer board to see if you guys can come up with some soccer players that could play in the NFL or NBA...I know nothing about soccer which is why I am asking y'all

I have to figure if Ronaldo could catch worth a damn he probably could be a solid receiver or something.

Also, solely being athletic does not necessarily mean someone will be a good soccer player.

it's hard to judge b/c of the different muscle requirements

NFL/NBA require much more explosive movement and objective strength. that muscle mass requires more oxygen and inhibits longterm usage. soccer requires longterm usage more than immediate explosiveness, so they can't get comparable

the NBA also has "freak" size requirements that really just aren't seen in soccer except a few outliers (once you get past point guards, obviously). soccer has "anti-freak" size allowances that let the best player in soccer be like 5-6. it's really hard to compare the two

I'd put money on Micah Richards growing up in the US to be a linebacker.

I mean, obviously....

The thought process is always that if you had taken the elite NFL/NBA players and as kids got them into Soccer instead of the sport they are in now America would be dominate in Soccer. this thread isn't to argue whether or not that is true.

What I am interested in is what Soccer players do you think could have been great NFL or NBA players if that's the sport they had chosen at a younger age

Wrong. 90+% of the MSB is certain that LeBron could walk onto Barcelona's squad today and topple Messi.

It's pretty damn difficult to think of many/any that would be great NBA players. They're all so short by comparison.

Even with football, it's pretty tough to say. It's tough to judge how good someone would be on a football field when they aren't using their hands at all. You would literally just be going on who is the fastest player.

Some of them could probably be kickers, though.

If PGs could transfer their handling skills to dribbling there would be some pretty lethal wingers

Even at Shaq's peak, he wouldn't have cracked any soccer starting lineup.

I meant to put a disclaimer that I meant other positions besides Kicker/Punter

Yea yea, I don't care about whether or not that is true, discuss that in another thread. I care about which Soccer players you think could play in the NBA or NFL.

I imagine a lot of them would be good slot receivers, defensive backs, maybe rb's if they can take the punishment. The height disadvantage does sort of limit them as far as the NBA goes

I think there's plenty of soccer players that could play in the NFL, but it would basically be limited to WR or CB.

No, you don't, or you'd actually discuss the answers given in this thread.

This thread was a pure troll thread.
