Although some are on the fence about JK, I think this is a tremendously positive step for U.S. Soccer.

Klinsmann may not be the be-all,end-all coach, but at least now we are taking steps to go and bring someone from the outside and make some much needed changes.

Ultimately a hire like this opens up the job for even more qualified hires in the future (like a Joachim Lowe, for example).

Again, JK may not win us a world cup, but it certainly shows that US soccer is ready to start making some serious steps forward.

JMO....

Pretty much concur. Although it may not work out, it's pretty clear that the ceiling for success is much higher for JK compared to BB.

That opportunity in itself is worth the risk.

I guess I still don't understand the concept of foreign coaches for national teams.

He also said he wouldn't be calling up "that Jonathan Goldmanstein guy, because we need team players and WE WON'T WASTE ZE WORK OF DEAR OTTO VON BISMARCK" before blacking out.

I think he had a similar staff at Germany. I wonder if his company, SoccerSolutions, is involved in any way.

If all else fails... follow the money.

I wonder if any of the US Soccer big wigs are investors?

Maybe not for traditional powers.

For the U.S. it makes a lot of sense, especially when the foreign coach already lives here and has already coached his home team.

@GrantWahl Curious, any interviews over the years with coaches who've said their philosophy is a defensive style of football?

That's funny. I've always thought the same thing.

I recall my first semester of grad school when I was a TA for a basic composition class. My students had been asked to write essays in response to some banal question regarding personal attributes they consider most important. Almost all of them had answered originality.

I agree with the posters above that we'll see the most immediate improvement in results if Klinsman and his assistants can improve our poor defensive positioning.

I actually agree, but a lot of teams would be much worse off without the option.

I think he's talking about coaches in the same sense you talk about players. I don't think he's saying that we'll definitely be better off just sticking with American coaches.

Rumors have it he may ask Sigi Schmid to be an assistant. However, taking a reduced role. I'm not sure abt that.

Did we just uncover why Bradley was sacked? We're soccer's version of Bernstein and Woodward.

I kind of wish he would ask Caleb Porter to be his assistant.
