Notice that the names being released are mainly CONCACAF officials. Since CONCACAF does extensive business in the U.S., it, and its officials, are subject to U.S. laws. The federal prosecutors are likely very confident of their cases against the CONCACAF guys, seeing as how Chuck Blazer has apparently been cooperating with the FBI LINK, and they will likely try to leverage them into testifying against non-CONCACAF FIFA officials.

They would have at least a two year notice. I'm sure they would be able to work something out in time, assuming their stadiums are large enough ion the first place

i am assuming that the US gave the Swiss a nudge and the Swiss were like, "yea frick Blatter" and are handling the European prosecutions
with the Swiss opening up an investigation into 2018/2022 and these seemingly aimed at north/central/south american parties, i suppose we're splitting up the duties and the Swiss are our partners. now, why the Swiss are participating is very interesting question. if the DOJ used strong-arm tactics for this, it may not work out that well

While reading this thread, I keep imagining this turning out like a scene from a cheesy movie. The US stands up in a room, then one by one more countries stand up, then the whole room goes crazy. Or, the US stands up and charges into battle and doesn't realize nobody is behind them.

Ever since seeing the headlines on this I've had that old song "Its the most wonderful time of the year" rattling around in my head.
Most of FIFA might be able to ninja their way out of this but CONCACAF does their business out of Miami. That means we are well within our rights to drop the hammer on them for this sort of thing.

I'm also daydreaming about that Southpark episode where Cartman got the entire house of representatives to sing "Heat of the Moment". Part of me worries that somehow Blatter will get out of this in the end with a similar tactic.

This is the most puzzling. I'd think that they'd probably have something pretty solid to go through with this. I don't think this is just the US taking on FIFA for World Cup hosting qualms. There has to be more to it than this for us to pursue it and the Swiss to agree to this partnership. Otherwise, it's a strange move to just hit the people the hit on this out of the blue.

Based on the most recent E60 by Schaap looking at Blatter, the Swiss government has been looking more and more into the inner working of FIFA and their corruption.
