Yeah just comparable G/A between Messi and Haaland. Messi with more man of the matches. More chances created. More key passes. Both won their league. Both won their domestic cup. Haaland won a UCL with a super team and he ghosted in the finals. Messi won the World Cup while being the difference in EVERY match. Total popularity contest. Messi should have never been invited

I hate life time achievement awards being given for yearly honours.

And if the WC is so important why didn't Iniesta win in 2010? Or Sneijder/Robben even make the final?

Simple. Messi was a better footballer that year. Just like he was better than Haaland this time.

I think the Messi is the GOAT, but it's pretty silly using this to equate them their club seasons.

It is, but it's also just as silly to discount how much Messi left his imprint on the 2022 World Cup.

Ok, well the best player in the World Cup and best player in Ligue Un has quite the claim for the ballon d'or.

Maybe Haaland should've won it, but to act like he was robbed is a hilarious take.

Anyone who didn’t vote EH 1st should never be allowed to vote again.

My brother in christ. You realize Haaland just reset the PL scoring record, CL leading scorer, 50+ goals for the season, Won the CL, PL, FA cup. Sorry but your logic is flawed and you can't take off your messi rose tinted glasses. You messi/ronaldo superfan types are insufferable.

"The difference in every match" yea from the penalty spot.

Messi was on quite literally a super team and he couldn't get past the round of 16 in the CL?

The roster they had the past two years yes was a super team, they just didn't want to work hard. Any side that has Mbappe and Messi in the same lineup automatically qualifies as a super team.

This year it was given to him as like a lifetime achievement

Outside of a few matches in the WC

Nothing he did the last year warranted winning the award

Brazil’s president Lula RIPPED into his countrymen using Messi as an example…

quote:

Messi should serve as an example to Brazilian players. The 36-year-old guy, world champion, with the Ballon d'Or and everything. Messi needs to be an inspiration of dedication for these kids. Anyone who wants to win the Ballon d'Or has to dedicate themselves, they have to be professional. It doesn't go with partying, it doesn't go with a night out

lol, wasn't even the best player on his team (until he went to MLS and collected a paycheck to sit out most of the games) or in the tournament.

He wasn’t the best player on Argentina during the WC? What?
