2.They thought Gus Johnson would be good at soccer commentary.
Everyone on this board at the time wanted him.
And I still think he could have grown into the role. They just threw him into the deep end immediately and gave him a revolving door of morons to work with.

Good. They've done an excellent job. If only ESPN would get the next six world cups.

I was hoping they would drop the EPL and get a deal going with La Liga
They thought about it but then decided to just go ahead and flush the cash straight down the drain to expedite the process.

I honestly thought he could be good if they eased him into it. BUT NAH.

I don't know if my eyes are playing tricks on me, but Everton on USA had far better HD than any of the Fox games I've watched in the last 2 months. FWIW, it also looked better than the typical NBC non-network games from last season.
Thats bc its off the Sky cameras
even after transmitting it to the states it still looks great.

Now if Xfinity would stop showing the games on it's On Demand channels and move them to dedicated channels.

This. I certainly never wanted Gus. Dude's excellent at what he knows, but his soccer commentary was always going to be dreadful considering no one wanted to wait 10 years to wait for it to get better.
Back to the topic, this is great news. I guarantee PL was watching American broadcasts to judge the quality, and when NBC ponied up a big enough number, they took it. The Premier League wants no part in the way Fox treats their sport.

.@Ourand_SBJ estimates NBC’s six-year bid for the Premier League was likely north of $800M, possibly closer to $1B.
Quite an increase

Will any of this get to the clubs? Everton needs money so Roberto can buy more Wigan players.

o yea for sure
thats why the new Sky deal is such a big deal
this just add more to the pot

Yea yea yea I get that the leagues have different tv deal expectations and more importantly the market for the PL in the US is much much bigger.....but still I could wish for easier access to the 2 best clubs in the world right?
Posted on 8/10/15 at 6:10 pm to LSU316
Yea I'm jackin' with you La Liga is the best right now but F Barcelona but the quality of those two teams make the league largely uninteresting except for a very select few fixtures a year.

Indeed....and Messi wears sports bras.
Atleti, Valencia, and Sevilla can make things interesting though.
