I feel like all the MLS expansion just dilutes an already mediocre product

I don't know about that...
Parts of Kenner/Metairie have more Spanish language signs than English, plus, there's a sizeable international/immigrant (legal and illegal) population in the GNO area. They would certainly support it, and I can say there would be pretty solid support in South LA (because there is a sizable youth soccer presence).

The new one in Orlando is doing pretty well so far. They're getting their own 20k seat stadium next year close to where the Magic play.

Not quite true. Getting into more markets helps being in money. TV deals are getting better and the cap is increasing. Let's you spend more money on talent that may have gone to other leagues. More teams are starting academies which will help improve the quality in the future. The league is only getting better. Adding a few teams in the Southeast will only help. This is a part of the country the MLS has neglected.

Does Birmingham have a high level soccer team now? If so and they support it then would think that the city might actually have a shot at an MLS team.
On the other hand, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Nashville are all higher profile Southeastern cities. Maybe if MLS wanted a market where they were the only pro team.

I think the idea of being the only pro team should hold sway. I've also been encouraged by the support Regions Field and the Barron's have gotten which would bode well for MLS IMO

To be fair, I think MLS was scared from the region for awhile after they had to contract Tampa Bay Mutiny and Miami Fusion relatively quickly.
Now that the league has built the brand and is on better financial footing, I agree that getting back into the Southeast will help.

I do not see how anyone can be critical of the way MLS has built itself. It has done better than any other soccer league in America is buidling itself into a decent league that should overtake the NHL in popularity in the next decade or so.

Hah...no. Just a few guys who formed a team with no league to play in and charge a few bucks to come watch them play whoever they can muster up.
It's a group called the Birmingham Hammers...with the goal of bringing professional soccer to birmingham, but I think the furthest they get in accomplishing that goal is saying "hey man, wouldn't it be cool to have professional soccer in birmingham" They did organize the Atlanta silverbacks vs. UAB game though...so maybe that's what they meant.

Just checking in to say that the statement that they need to switch the schedule to fall through spring might have been one of the worst ideas ever put forth on a message board for weather alone. Throw in competing with NFL and NHL for added flavor.

Their schedule is a disaster- out of line with the European leagues. When there is a World Cup going on and all the leagues are on their break, MLS is playing.
