MLS adding Gio Dos Santos rule

Per league tradition of making up rules mid-season
It's just an extra 100k that can be used to buy down contracts. In this case, restructuring a low paid DP's contract to free up a DP slot

It's fricking bullshite adding this new rule mid season but it is what it is with the Galaxy getting another big name.
Making him the highest paid player in the league is absurd

He's not the best player, but if it's what it takes to lure talent to the league, I'm fine with it. I mean, this is a 28 year old who starts on a la liga team that just qualified for the UCL.

SCH is upset that the little lady is not at retirement age

Not at all upset about that but paying him that much is absurd.
The retirement league image isn't going away for a while.

In 10 years when the league is well established im sure they will just get rid of the cap. You cant be a top league in the world and compete with leagues that dont have caps.

The league is already established and the cap isn't going anywhere especially in 10 years.

I thought the reason why these rules keep coming out is because the full details of the CBA, etc weren't released/finished before the start of the season. I think a 4th DP slot (in some form) was coming regardless of Dos Santos.

Then the MLS will never compete on a global scale.

Never =\= 10 years.
Slow steady growth. We aren't going to be the EPL after only 30 years of existence.

Rumor is 9 million a year

That is a lot for someone who's only score like 36 club goals in the last decade

I actually think the MLS is going to be pretty damn big in a decade.

That all depends on MLS youth academies if the quality is going to increase that fast to make it a top 10 league in the world

This signing doesn't fit that narrative.

But Gerrard, Lampard and Pirlo the last few months does.

Of course it does. But, Giovenco, Dos Santos and Bradley aren't. Big names are needed at this point. The academies are going to start producing and the clubs need to own the rights, not the league. The homegrown stuff will kick in eventually. Jordan Morris qualifies for that and could be the first big one for MLS.

I don't think Pirlo adds fuel to the fire in the stupid retirement league banter. Pirlo's last match was on the grandest European stage. He is still a world class player. Skill trumps age.

But don't let that logic get in the way of SCH's anti-MLS ranting.
