The downvotes show that people still don’t appreciate Bob for what he was able to do.

Say what you will, but at least Bob’s teams played with grit. We were close to a QF in 2010 (if Jones and Holden didn’t have their unfortunate leg injuries I think we make it) and we probably should have won the 2009 confederations cup.

If we are going for a retread I'm taking BJ Callaghan at this point.

We just need to get more of our players in at Stoke City.

I legit think a lot of the downvotes are people thinking that's a picture of Gregg

Man, if Landon Donovan is calling you out for being a soft puss you know it's bad.

Bob was always underrated as the US manager. He was very solid.

I didn’t appreciate Bob when he was our manager. Now I do, in retrospect. Seeing people wax poetic about Klinsmann from time to time makes me ill.

The biggest issue with Bob, IIRC, was his call ups. I remember always being pissed about the roster. Tactics wise I really don't remember but we did get pretty good results including that confederation cup run.

Blows my mind.

We missed the World Cup because of how Jurgy handled the team and, like I said in the other thread, we are still digging ourselves out of that gigantic hole.

Bob Bradley was a very solid manager but at the time we thought we could do better. American arrogance, perhaps?

We can’t. We won’t.

Also, pretty sure that’s a Vuori tee he’s wearing in that picture. I have the same one in a different color.

I'm still of the opinion we have probably hit our peak from our past heights, and we probably won't ever get much better than maybe the occasional World Cup Quarterfinals.

2002 WC was peak US.

I feel like this generation is missing someone who can pull the strings in the midfield and attacking 1/3.

We have midfield bruisers: MMA midfield

Speed on the wings: CP, ARob, Dest, Weah

But not a game changer at ST or someone who can pick out a pass. This is what happen last WC. We didn't get dominated, but weren't a threat on the offensive end.

So our paths to victory is to hope CP does something special or lean on folks until they make a mistake.

I have always said IF Gio could play the 10 it at least gives you a chance to pick out a pass to break open the game but he is a head case.

At this point, what style of play fits our player pool the best?

Previously the style was defend like crazy and play with grit and hope to get one on the counter. But that doesn't fit this player pool. It is obvious they don't have that in them.

That has a lot to do with the player's he had being gritty. A lot of those guys just had the dog in them. I yearn for the days of Jermaine Jones being the sheriff of Concacf.
