re: How many days rest does it take to get over one game?

Honestly in terms of endurance, Soccer is probably more grueling than football- not in impact injuries but they run a lot, lot more-- especially given the last game was in the freaking Amazon.

Yeah, there's a reason the teams playing in Manaus didn't win their next matches.
I understand Brazil wanting to spread the venus to different parts of the country, but staging matches in the Amazon is pretty terrible. If the Qatar WC isn't moved to a different location and remains during the summer, there will be some awful fitness and injury issues in that tournament. We should hold our training camp in Death Valley (and I don't mean Tiger Stadium) to prepare.

Fatigue is a BS excuse. I realize the older you get the longer it takes to recover... but these guys have unlimited medical staff's and fluids are reintroduced after the match.
there is no reason at all they cannot recover to 100% within two days if no injury was sustained.

And you wonder why soccer has a hard time catching on in the US. OP asks a legitimate question as nicely and non-aggresive as he can, and still half the responses are people getting ultra defensive and resorting to insuts.

done it 2 or 3 sounds about right and they are in way better shape than i ever was. I know long distances running is not the same as soccar game
Comparing the physical beating football players take to soccer is stupid. They take different tolls on your body.

Southern states play in about the same (or hotter) conditions as they are playing now. Particularly the first few weeks.

And then makes the stupid "American football players get way more messed up and are fine" argument. Playing in the middle of the Amazon and having 3 days to recover to play at full potential after running for 90+ minutes is something no other athlete has to do. Period.

I knew it was coming. There's just no way to avoid it. And any fairly legit comparison is dismissed with me being ignorant.

Its the ignorance to compare soccer to football that warranted the responses he got

Every athlete in a pro sport has access to all of that. In every sport. Yet people still get tired. And always will.
Were all human. You swear and get tired and lose fluids, regardless what you do before hand.
You can do everything you can to help prevent that and to help you recover. But you will still be gassed. Especially after you play in the Amazon in June.
It's also about muscle memory. If your body is used to 4 days recovery time, and then you only have 3 between games, your body isn't 100%. Think of a pitcher in baseball. They never change the rotation or throw that pitcher a day earlier than he usually does. Because his arm isn't ready.

It wasn't supposed to be "well American football is better because they do this blah blah blah."
I tried to find a close comparison in terms of DAYS rest (Sunday-Thursday for both sports) and then tried to compare both tolls taken on the players. Yes one is much more physical and the other is much more anaerobic. But both games take a big toll on players.

What is the basis of your opinion on this subject?
Also, what are you getting at?
You realize there is a big difference at being capable of doing something, and being able to do something well.

Football teams play games on Sunday and have to play again on Thursdays sometimes and those guys get physically beat up.
Kind of a bad point to bring up, considering the Thursday night game is normally completely terrible to watch and much more sloppy than regular Sunday games.

Most of these players still haven't been able to get a rest from the end of their club season.
ETA: Also, our guys are playing on a day's less rest on a waterloged field against a team that had to travel fewer miles and didn't have to play in a rainforest.

Exactly. Even if a team is at 95% strength that's still a disadvantage when the other team is at 100%.

And both teams bitch about not having enough rest!

So you find the example of where it happens one time during the NFL season. The NFL players also complain about it fwiw too.
Can you find an example of where 4 football games are played in a 2 week span? Because that's what is basically about to happen for the US in soccer on Tuesday.
And for the record, I wouldn't even consider myself a soccer fan. I'm starting to get into it but I really don't know shite about it. With that said, I completely respect the conditioning and athletic ability it takes for these guys to do what they do.

and 99% players hate it. I agree with them I have no idea how they can do that, especially running backs and linebackers

I think the closest was the Ravens doing 4 in 17 days.

Dude. You responded to the legitimate responses with how American football players had more physicality than soccer players. It shows your OP was biased to begin with, despite trying to come off as a curious noob.
Football players get beat up, sure. But their bodies are built to withstand hits and run for about 10 minutes total, throughout an entire 60 minute NFL game. Soccer players stay running continuously with increased exertion for 90+ minutes. It is NOT comparable.
Then for the marathon runner argument to be brought in shows how stupid of a thread this is. Just another attack on the sport of soccer.

I've seen this a few times in this thread. It's just not true. The Thursday games are fine. You can magnify mistakes in those games to use to prove your point, but it's not much different than a regular Sunday game.

I'm not in that .000057% chosen to be on the team, so of course I would not be able to do it
but their opponents in the tournament are in that percentage. so if the athletic ability is equal, the team with more rest will have an advantage.
