re: How is this not a fireable offense?

I can't speak for anyone else but to me the main function of the USMNT is to help grow the game in this country
That's absolutely not the role of a national team manager. It might be part of it, but his primary role is to select the 23 best Americans, put them in the right positions and win competitive matches.

there were some seriously bad loses in WC qualifying
I'll say this: if a coach ever lost to a team like Jamaica in WC Qualifying he should be fired on the spot. Agreed?

The one match isn't fire able.
The entire showing this tournament is.
Not saying we should fire Jurgen. I think that would set us back. But he needs to figure it the frick out.

Disagree. Germany lost to Poland. That seems like a pretty solid parallel.

Y'all seriously need to give it up. I feel like people are going to be bitching about this 5 cycles from now.
It was an unforgivable offense that deserves all the criticism it gets.

We did lose to them in 2012, but that was less than a year after he took the job. Our big turning point came in May/June 2013 and he has done a solid job ever since.

I may be an a-hole but I'm consistent and confident in my arguments

Our positioning is also a massive concern.

Good point.
Giles Barnes is the best striker in MLS, Lewandowski is the best striker in the Bundesliga.
Sczeszny played for Arsenal for a long time, which is roughly equivalent to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

Which is a function of players not having an earthly idea of what their role is. Who can we blame for that?

I wonder what else happened around that time?
I bet it was the return of Stuart Holden more than anything.

Bradley got fired for losing in the final of the Gold Cup after advancing to the round of 16 in the World Cup. Probably already posted, but I don't think Jurgen has done anything since the World Cup to make a great case he deserves another one.
WC qualifying is going to be very interesting if something doesn't change.

5 straight Gold Cup Final streak snapped.
Bob got fired for losing in the final.
After being dominated by Mexico and losing to Panama in group stage.
We had 20 shots with 10 on goal and 58% possession. We looked fricking awful, and Jurgen seems to be confused as to what tactics actually are. The simple truth is that as awful as we looked, tactics aren't the issue when you can't put the ball past the keeper.
I'm tired of every fricking negative outcome becoming another "OMG frick JURGEN, LANDY CAKES RULZ, OMG!" fest. It's annoying. Move on. I'm mad. I feel disgusted by what I saw. Jurgen needs to get a fricking book on tactics. There's a lot to be pissed off about. Actually, there are a TON of valid complaints to be made, but fireable offense is fricking retarded.

Not making the Confederations Cup is a fireable offense. That precedent is set already.
We aren't at that point yet, but we didn't make it any easier on ourselves.

I agree with you. Again, I'm not happy at all. I just think it's weak to go straight to comparisons to Bob Bradley when this is nowhere near the Mexico pounding that tipped the scales. It's one thing to be embarrassed, but it's another to be utterly dominated by your main competition for CONCACAF supremacy.

I'm mad we lost just like everyone. I'm even more mad we lost while playing Bradley as a 10, Zardes as a LM, Evans at RB, Beckerman against a fast team, and using our 11th back 4 combination in 13 games this year. That my friends is what has me pissed
Posted on 7/22/15 at 8:30 pm to etm512
Zardes at LM is one of those "frick, I used my last sub on the wrong player" on FIFA moves. It's wonderful.

Huh?
We were dominating Mexico until Dolo went down.

I honestly think his whole tenure has been a clusterfrick that he's been able to spin around as "experimenting." I can accept a loss as bad luck if the process in place is seemingly coherent. But nothing Klinsmann seems to do makes any long term sense. If he wanted a young defense to gel over a tournament, why not set up the midfield in such a way to limit the defense's mistakes? And why did he coax Beasley out of retirement if he wasn't going to use him?
I've said it before, but we were promised a revolution in technique and tactics, and all we've gotten is a team that isn't good at defending nor attacking. At least under Bob we could defend and counter well. We haven't had an identity for years. And that's a major problem as to why when we play, we seem schizophrenic.

We were winning that game until Cherundolo got hurt, FWIW.
