Soccer is WAYYYYYY too mainstream for Berlin. It's basically a city full of hipsters. The preferred sport there is probably curling or something.

Didn't know there were any other Citeh fans here... Nasri and Tevez are my boys, and im rolling with ManC from here on out. Btw, this was my first year following EPL, or any league.
I felt like I couldn't jump on the ManU, Liverpool, or Arsenal bandwagons.... and City captured my attention this year. I really hope they continue to build a dynastic club.

I would get the same complaint if I chose Chelsea... I feel like I can't win. I wanted a team from Yorkshire, but they can't ascend, or stay in, the premier league.

Shitty has a lot of fun players to watch, I can see how you were drawn to them if this was your first season tuning in...

For me, it was easy. My grandmother lives about 2 blocks away from the Fenerbahce stadium and a relative of mine was their goalie in the 1930s. He briefly coached them on an interim basis as well.
And outside of a small handful of freaks on my mom's side of the family who support Besiktas
, everyone else supports Fenerbahce so it was a natural choice.
And I support the Turkish national team, which can be an exercise in frustration, because of my dual citizenship.
To answer some of your questions, most good teams are in multiple competitions. Think of the domestic league like the SEC conference schedule in college basketball and the Champions League as March Madness, except they are going on at the exact same time
The Lamar Hunt US Open is similar to the national cups in most countries, where top division pro teams play in a single elimination tournament alongside teams from lower divisions and even some semi-pro sides. Since it's single elimination, there are always little teams like Norfolk State or Valpo in the NCAAs that knock off one of the big teams.
And guys like Beckerman have to leave Real Salt Lake when they accept national team invites. Since the MLS runs on a different schedule than the European leagues, the international tournaments can run at the same time as the MLS season (but not Spain, England, Germany, and most of the Latin American leagues).
Also, while MLS is not as good as the top leagues, it is probably the fourth best league in the Americas, after Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico. It's probably on par with the Scandinavian leagues in Europe and maybe Belgium, so it is definitely watchable. And since you're in an MLS city, unlike the vast majority of posters who are in the Southeast with no MLS represntation, it should be easy to find some supporters' groups for Real Salt Lake. They are a good organization.
Jason Kreis is a great coach and may one day be in charge of the national team.

The bandwagon statement was really based on winning history. Pool has a glorious past, Arsenal is hip, and Man U are the NYY of soccer... I felt like I couldn't choose those three.
