re: How did you become a fan of whatever club team you root for?

Well, I saw a bunch of people here on TD talking about soccer and, although I didn't follow it, I wasn't anti-soccer so I decided I'd give it a try. This was right before the 2009 MLS season and I figured I'd pick the expansion team, the Sounders, to follow. Plus, I have some family up in Washington, so that helped a little.
When the Premier League season for 2009-10 started, I tried the "watch as many games as you can and a team will come to you" method. So I did that and I liked what I saw from Tottenham, who had Defoe, Bale, and Modric, so I went with them.

Of course, as far as perception, even if spots 3-10 in the table were forced to sell every single good player they had but Juve or Milan won the CL most people would see that as Serie A being stronger. The league is actually stronger now though than when Inter won the CL a few years back.
True, and i really don't follow it as well as i should. I should keep up with it more. granted i have said the same thing about Germany.

FIFA on PS3...
didn't wanna be a bandwagon Man U fan, and the EPL was the only league i was familiar with, so i looked around, liked Liverpool's kits the best, and the rest is history.....
after making them my team, i read about the history of the club (didn't know before that that they were very successful, so it wasn't a bandwagon pick or anything) and knew i picked the right team for my personality.... weird how it worked out...

My sister had already chosen Liverpool as her team and my dad and I liked Arsenal (I loved Thierry Henry, he was my idol as a young soccer lad). Eventually I decided I wanted my own team so I could play against my dad in FIFA. I chose Chelsea, which had a lot to do with Arjen Robben at the time, and it didn't hurt that Henry left Arsenal a couple years later. Also had teammates who liked Arsenal, so anytime we played FIFA I would choose Chelsea.
ETA:
Spanish: Sevilla (went there in High School)
French: CA Bastia (because I played as them on FIFA)
Italian: Fiorentina (Only Italian city I've visited for an extended period of time)
German: Schalke04, but after this iteration of FIFA I'm really starting to like Wolfsburg.
Irish: Sligo Rovers (FIFA)
MLS: Chicago Fire (family from there; first professional soccer game I attended)

This, I hope they put the stadium somewhere sick. I know port of miami is done but if that could have happened
Agreed. I'm interning at a law office that is handling the deal and lobbying for the team. It's a hamster wheel right now. Lots of talk but no traction.

Fiorentina's a respectable choice of club to follow as well. I'm enjoying that they, along with Napoli, are back to fielding strong teams.
I love their purple jerseys

Those were prbly the Alan Smith days for Leeds. He was a fun player to watch and i really liked him for united
yea the smitty, bowyer, woodgate, viduka, robinson, dacourt, harte era. great team. smith is kind of like a manu ginobili, you hate the guy if he's on another team but love everything he gives if he's on your team.
the season leeds went down, it really hit home in the 2nd to last game when he scored a meaningless penalty against charlton, ran up to the fans and kissed the badge on his shirt. at the end of the match, the fans stormed the pitch and carried him off...then like 10 days later he joined man utd and they all hated him
LINK
i also remember that first goal he scored after his injury at man utd in that 7-2 game vs roma, how excited his teammates were when he scored, ronaldo was about to JIHP
and which version of fifa has sligo rovers?

Watch out BlueMoon, you'll be called a douche. I posted over there and got reprimanded by some guy I don't know.

For real SCH. Amazing how he just happened to like the kits of one of the greatest European clubs.
Also this is a bit confusing...
It's pretty impossible to be at all "familiar" with the EPL and not know that Liverpool is one of the biggest freaking clubs in England and Europe.
Yep, pretty "weird".
In all seriousness these threads are always good for a laugh.

There really is no point in getting into it with some of the self righteous Liverpool fans.
They were a glamor/big spending club long before the rest. In the 70's and 80's they basically would out spend everyone.

No shame in my game. I follow the Argentine players and cheer for them. However, I do admit I have a soft spot for Chelsea.

I know FIFA13 but I haven't fired up a FIFA14 Sligo MM. There's a glitch where no matter how good you get, your scouts return "1st team quality" players of your initial star rating.
After 10 seasons with CA Bastia I was still getting players in the 60s. So I decided to not start any more fixer-upper MMs.

There used to be a game my brother and I played called "Winning Eleven". It was awesome.

yea i had that one. certain countries used fake last names due to some type of dispute. i remember ryan giggs was ryan gils
Posted on 7/7/14 at 3:15 pm to SabiDojo
That game used to put fifa to shame with its game mechanics
but by the time they were able to use real players and clubs it was too late

MLS....Seattle Sounder because I lived in Seattle at the time they started playing in MLS. Their atmosphere is awesome.
Serie A....Napoli, spent a month there in college and got to go to a few games. I enjoy watching their new reinvented style of play.
Bundesliga....Bayern, family from Bavaria and Munich is one of my favorite European cities
EPL....Newcastle, but reasoning is weak. I attended a soccer camp when I was younger and all the guys that ran it were from Newcastle. I'm those days they had Alan Shearer and were actually halfways decent
Other leagues like La Liga and Ligue 1 and some others I'll watch but don't have a real allegiance
