Funny how Atlético de Madrid is the ´peoplés´ club, and Real is fascist.
The way both clubs are currently perceived and how embodied by the majority of their current ´socios´, has nothing to do with their history.
On the surface, and based on foreign propaganda, or self serving domestic propaganda, I wouldn´t be a fan either.
FCB, by the way, are Países Bajos (Netherlands) in much, not just the Cruyff era. If you understand European history, then you´ll get it.

I picked Man City in 2009 before they got good.
Then they got good so it was easy to stick with them.

I have an issue.
I became a Barcelona fan around 2005; my dad took me to see them play in Los Angeles as a graduation gift. It was the first time I'd ever been on a plane or been to that part of the country, and it was right before I started pre-season training for my college soccer team. So it was pretty monumental to me, and seeing Ronaldinho play in his prime remains one of the highlights of my sports life.
I've never had the Fox soccer channel or anything like that, so watching the games has been difficult at times since then but I always did my best to keep up with the team. However, watching them lately has been horrifying. I don't know if I changed or they did, but their flopping, whining and general approach to the game (save for Messi's brilliance, of course) has been tough to watch. I can honestly say that they are difficult to root for nowadays.
Do I ride it out and hope for a change? Am I in the wrong here? Maybe I can keep them as my La Liga team and just pick some solid EPL and Bundesliga sides to root for to keep everything even.

OP, visited The Hague about a month ago. Very cool city
I chose Tottenham Hotspur for a variety of small reasons. It was a couple years ago, and I was looking for a team on FIFA to do manager mode. Chose Spurs because they were good, but not one of the "top 4". I liked their crest and simple color design, thus chose them.
Through playing FIFA I became somewhat familiar with their players. Also, I saw someone back then post a link to upcoming stadium project...which I can't wait for when it's eventually done. I figured when I returned to London whenever it would be easier to access than many other EPL teams.
Watching that season cemented my choice in the club because it was very easy to cheer for Bale and Dempsey, along with the other players I had become familiar with.

Used to like Chelsea strictly because of Drogba, and Arsenal strictly because of Henry. But everybody liked them and I like being different, so after taking a liking to my heritage and having a strong French influence in my family, I went with Paris Saint-Germain around 2009. Plus they used to have my boy Sessegnon.

My father is a big soccer fan, I always played growing up but never cared to follow any of the leagues because playing was fun, watching was not. When I was in Argentina my dad bought me a Bayern Jersey so they were the first club I ever followed, and that following is pretty recent. I'm still fairly new to the leagues and all. I've seen tons of games from various teams (50+ on TV) and 5 or 6 in person. Bayren will always be my "team" but I want to root for a few.
Father is a big Juventus and Real fan so I'll bandwagon off those.

My roommate at the time was a big Aston Villa fan and he would always watch games at our place. I enjoyed soccer and was a big USA fan but not really a fan of a club team. Then I watched a few games with him and got to watch Eric Lichaj and Brad Guzan, two Americans, playing for Villa and I was sold.
Going to my first Aston Villa game in a couple weeks when they play a friendly against the Dynamo! Just not sure if I wear one of my Guzan kits or my Delph kit...

It's like anything else, take the saints for example. After they won the super bowl everybody who wasn't a saints fan, viewed everybody who was a saints fan as a bandwagon fan.
