Repeat after me. No more "system" guys. We need someone that is pragmatic.

Man Lalas’ take on this is terrible. “I don’t care, doesn’t change my view on Berhalter…it’s not a big deal.”

Dealing with a disgruntled player is one thing. Losing trust with your player(s) is another.

Lalas with a hot take as usual.

Listen to Rog from Men in Blazers podcast take on the situation, and I think that was even before Gio’s statement came out.

Taking note, even after Gio apologized to his team after the Wales match, in a must must win against Iran when we needed a full offensive threat, greggg gave Gio ZERO minutes.

Not sure how USSF could even enter contract talks after that blunder.

So Greggg gone is a sure thing now right right

I guess the silver lining is that this fiasco makes it easier to part ways. Does anyone know if Zidane speaks English?

Was that whole "has to speak english" thing a Carlos Cordeiro order? If so, we may be ok.

And then, when down 2-0 in a knockout game, he turns to the same kid at half and puts him in a position he has never played for the NT which would infer that he believes that much in his ability that he can go out there and figure shite out

The last two World Cup's are mired by, at best, questionable roster decisions:

Damn you guys are rating Gio too high. I agree he needed more minutes, but he wasn't changing anything based on how he was playing.

Interesting lenes to view the Reyna situation.
1. Gregg has known Gio since Gio was young. Claudio and Gregg are supposedly best friends. With Claudio's position at Austin FC and MLS being linked at the hip with Soccer United Marketing and US Soccer could this situation where Gregg's position is untenable. Gio is no longer calling Gregg, Gregg its now very formal Coach Berhalter.
2. Gregg's man management is horrible. To tell a player prior to the tournament starting that you play is going to be very limited. The bad behavior happened after being told this.
3. Gio was told he was forgiven yet Gregg had to air dirty laundry at a leadership conference. Gregg never said what caused the Weston problem. Supposedly this event was to be off the record but when you tell 190 people a story and expect it not to get out you are extremely naive. To use a Ben Franklin quote "Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead."
4. This situation begins to make us reconsider Gregg's truthfulness in other situations. Brooks being strung along. Gregg telling us the Brooks was not fit when he started right after the window. Gregg hoped that Brooks would not return to form with his club and he would fall to the side. Brooks didn't and finished strong with his club.

The only reason I can come up with for Greg to talk about this now, before this World Cup is even over, is he wanted this to come out. Maybe to try and take some of the weight off of his shoulders from the backlash of the “not playing Gio heat”

He went from lying about an injury to cover this up during the tournament to airing dirty laundry in two weeks. Something made him change his mind and that’s the only thing I can come up with.

Either way in my opinion this is inexcusable behavior from the coach of our national team. One of his most important jobs as a National team manager is keeping the locker room in good spirits.

Nah, he’s proved he’s not that clever. Naive and stubborn, but not strategically clever enough to have a backup plan.
