The available info doesnt support that timeline.

Maybe you have access to information that the rest of us don’t, then. Gio just said “before the World Cup.” Does this mean September? Right before the first game? It’s not clear, and everything is speculative.

We don’t even know the context of the conversation. Does limited mean “I’m not playing you” or does limited mean “you may come off the bench but Weah is the clear starter?”

The objective info we have is that he had a shitty attitude, didn’t practice or scrimmage well, and didn’t get many minutes. If we were coached by Pep and the same shite happened y’all would be trashing Gio for his immaturity.
quote:

“Coooooaaacchh, Gio wasn’t trying hard in practice and you played him anywaaaaaay. NOT FAIR!!”

If GGG played Gio and lost the respect of the rest of the locker room y’all would be here screeching about that too.

Most people agree that Gio acted immaturely.

First of all, it just doesn’t make sense that Gio would, without reason, show up to the World Cup and just not give a good effort. So we shouldn’t think that he would.
Secondly, the most specific timeline anyone has given is Gio, after being publicly called out, admitting that he behaved poorly in the days after being told by Gregg he would have a limited role.
That is a timeline that makes sense.

I had completely forgotten about this one.

TBF, Donovan was pretty forgettable at that point. Only the WC newbies and bandwagoneers groaned about that one.

Oh now you’ve done it.

It would be fun to debate which decision worked out better.

That is blatant revisionist history. A simple google search underscores this. Foxsports article calling it the cruelest cut. There was also an absolute uproar at the time about it.

I recall it being extremely divisive at the time, for the entire fanbase.

Yeah, probably deserves its own thread. Or here's another one, who was the better coach Jürgen or Gregg?

I was living out of the country at the time so I didn't really catch all that. I can't imagine what it was like here.

He's the leading goal scorer in USMNT history and unarguably one of its greatest players of all time. You are telling me, a 32 year old Donovan wasn't better than at least the subs on the 2014 roster?

Nah. He would have allowed us a lot more tactical flexibility, especially once Altidore was hurt.

Dortmund taking care of their boy:

quote:

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl described reports of poor behaviour from Giovanni Reyna during the United States' World Cup campaign as "incomprehensible."

quote:

The 20-year-old has the backing of his club, with former BVB midfielder Kehl saying any questions over his professionalism are unjust.

"The contents of the reporting on Gio Reyna have surprised us a lot in the last few days," Kehl told DPA.

"He's had a really difficult time with multiple injuries. We've known the boy for many years, even though he's only 20.

"We see him as a good guy who works professionally and is a valued team-mate in the dressing room.

"After a few days in Qatar, that this is now being fundamentally questioned is incomprehensible for us at BVB and does not do justice to Gio Reyna."

That makes Earnest P's theory much more plausible. Gregg is a dumbass and we will continue to see poor roster management and be embarrassed on our home soil in 2026.

So Greggg gone is a sure thing now right right

Who do we get - caretaker for a year or two until the real deal or what, nobody available really interests me besides Roberto Martinez

Feels like the good candidates aren't free yet

Ancelotti already has been rumored to go to Brazil and he said wtf you talking about (Madrid contract expires 2024)

Zidane.

Deschamps has just signed an extension with France until Euro 2024, so let's get him now!

Bielsa and Zidane are levels above Martinez and jobless.

Think Marcelo is probably a better fit for making the best meal with the ingredients he's got, and Zidane would be a better man manager with this group and a much better recruiter for the dual nats
