I’m in the minority, but I’m ambivalent towards Ray Hudson, actively dislike Phil Schoen as a play-by-play guy, and am not a huge fan of some of the other commentary teams they manage to put together (which are sometimes a single step up from Shep Messing blabbering about how he played with Pele).

To their credit, they are probably the best of all of the networks at actually putting soccer on TV provided they can actually get into a subscription package (xfinity wouldn’t carry an HD feed in my area for years). I’d just prefer some more consolidation and would welcome ESPN getting more rights if it meant they’d throw all of the games on + with some random dude inoffensively monologuing over 90% of them.

why is that? I don’t hear him much now but I can’t imagine he’d give you a reason to dislike him

IMO Ray+Phil as good as Arlo+Lee but I'm only 3-4 years into this. I hate ESPN and FOX play by play teams. I'd prefer to watch in Spanish and guess what they're saying.

I agree with this

I think Arlo is better play by play
And Ray is the better color guy

So let’s put them together

Just now realizing Liverpool-United is solely on Peacock in two weeks.

What an absolute joke.

Apparently after the Olympics NBCSN will be shuttered and all NHL/EPL is headed to Peacock. So prepare your anus.

Being that I watch a lot of EPL, I don't really mind paying for Peacock. However, it has to be killing their casual viewer numbers.

They only put the lower tier sides on there

So this isn’t surprising

That pisses me off. I think it’s fine to have games like Burnley-Brighton on there but their marquee matchups? It’s horseshite.

I think he’s too opinionated for a play-by-play guy and don’t really like how he and Hudson play off of each other. Far from the worst pair on beIN/in sports generally, though.

My biggest complaint with the peacock bullshite, aside from the fact that it exists, is that it takes them several hours to post replays online. If they posted games pretty much immediately after they’ve ended, like ESPN does, then I really wouldn’t have much of a beef with them.

This genuinely blows my mind. I absolutely fricking hate listening to Ray & Phil. Phil sounds like he should be doing regional sports coverage for the astros, and Ray’s constant metaphors that shite out of his mouth make me want to kill myself.

Arlo & Lee are the gold standard from what I’ve heard in the American soccer market. I also really like Graeme le saux. It was the best when they had all three of them in the booth for the big games.

Graeme is actually Blue scum, which may be even worse

Just kidding, they're actually both very good. Hell, sometimes I think they even over-compensate and are harsh on Chelsea and Arsenal.

I still miss ESPN Premier League mornings with Ian Darke though.

How much different is it now than it was with NBC Gold?

From what I remember They rarely (or never) put the big matches on nbc gold, and I think the big clubs only had around 3 games a year put on nbc gold...and it was usually against bottom of the table teams. So the casual fan wasnt tuning in to say Tottenham vs. Norwich, but you can bet they’d want to watch Liverpool v. United.
