He does. He's a master of subterfuge. But the reality is that selling Mata was thoroughly silly in hindsight, as well as his reluctance to use Lukaku considering his options at striker.

I don't think that either of these two games were great examples of Mourinho being outclassed on gameday

The Copa final looked like Real didn't want to be there. Atletico was the more energetic side, even if that Falcao turn on Arbeloa was fortunate.

This game I thought Chelsea were completely outclassed. It was unlikely that Chelsea would have gone to the Calderon with a goal, but the way Chelsea set up at home put all the pressure on them. Chelsea had to score and prevent Atletico from getting a lucky goal, which they got, and thus opened up the game. In the second half Atletico dictated the play. I don't see how he wasn't outclassed tactically in this game.

They were. I just don't think that, given the collection of players today and ignoring any decisions he made to put himself in this position (decisions that I didn't criticize at the time, tbh), he was particularly poor relative to Simeone. He put his team in a position to win by scoring one goal with 40 minutes left of a 180 minute "game," went for it, and lost. I don't think that that's particularly egregious.

Egregious is when you're scheduled to play an incredibly good counter-attacking side away from home, you've struggled against the counter all year, and your idea of a plan b is to push Mesut Oezil out wide and stick Luka Modric directly into his place, compromising very little.

Yea there was no outclassing. If you want to criticize his personnel moves I'm totally fine with that, I did plenty of it myself last summer.

Once we foolishly gave away a ridiculous penalty it was over.

Also, if Hazard really said that after his laziness cost us a spot in the CL final then yea he can F off.

Fact is, as frustrating as today was, he did more than any other manager would have with the squad he had to work with.

You really think Hazard cost you a spot in the CL final?

He was the most fouled player on your team by a large margin. 18 fouls total against Atleti (on 8 different players, with only 2 cards issued) and Hazard was fouled 9 times. There's a reason for that.

A 41 year old backup keeper, two defenders playing midfield, and three players who had to pass pre-game fitness tests just to get on the field? The hell, you say.

Well his lack of awareness/laziness was the direct result of two goals. I mean they may have found a goal somewhere else but the previous fact being what it is it is hardly the time for him to be critical of anyone else.

Hazard's primary responsibility shouldn't be to defend. That's not what he's good at and that's not his role on the team. If y'all are asking him to do that then that is definitely Mou's fault.

So just because it's not what he's best at he shouldn't be expected to do it when necessary? When you are up 1-0 in the second leg of a CL Semifinal everyone's role is to defend. Especially the first goal because he just totally switched off. The third I don't fault him for as much because we were chasing the game already and he was just late getting back. First goal was definitely his fault though.

It's necessary and completely normal to have wingers like Hazard responsible for those late runs when the FB is pulled in.

For example, a moment much like Hazard failing to track back for those 2 goals today is why Adem Ljajic spent 2 months on the bench for Roma this season.

After seeing Hazard losing concentration to allow Atleti's 1st goal and then subbing on Eto'o to immediately see him concede a PK, Mourinho may go ahead and replace all his attackers with defensive mids this summer.

Ha, would have helped today after we went up. Back 4 is set, adding Matic to the lineup will help next year, just need a 9 and 10 then there will be no excuses.

Leading CL semis at home don't come around very often though. This one will sting for some time. Especially considering how we threw the league away at home less than two weeks ago.

You have one of the best young 10's in the world in Oscar. Bring Lukaku back and y'all are set there. 10's and 9's don't need to be doing anything besides creating chances.

Oscar is not ready, not close really. His regression this year has been stunning. The fact he can't even get into a game we are chasing a goal speaks volumes.

He's right

When Jose get his guys in and more time with the current guys learning his system we all might be fricked.

This is not a typical Jose side and most the players who fit his style are from his last go round and are old. Out of the current young players on the team only William, Hazard and Cahill really fit the bill. The book is def still out on Salah.

People in here saying he was out classed are reaching. He faced a much more technical side with much better pace. The fact he got this team this far is a credit to his coaching.

lol, congrats you didnt get as far as the team with $100 million less in players wages. And he had all the opportunity to get more players in, ones that fit, to get a striker worth a shite. He didnt.

wut im not a chelsea fan and those players are from previous coaches. Like I said he faced a far superior technical side with more pace. Wage bill has nothing to do with that.

Every player he signs will be from a previous coach. Whats your point? He has more resources than most clubs. Yet it is a testament they made it that far? A trophy less season is not why they hired him or why they spend more than most clubs on players.

its about finding players who fit your system and giving current players time to learn and adapt which takes usually a season.

quote:

He has more resources than most clubs
With FIFA fair play now he can't go on the spree he went on his first go around and will have to sell of guys that don't fit his system first. Now he's had a season to evaluate you can def expect them to make moves this summer.

quote:

Yet it is a testament they made it that far

No one expected them to get this far in the CL or the EPL.

quote:

A trophy less season is not why they hired him

In his first year back that was a clear project he has over achieved proving how good a manager he is. Look at his results vs the top 6 in the EPL.

quote:

they spend more than most clubs on players.

which is changing with FIFA fair play.

doesnt change the fact that they are a top 4 club in the world as far as wages go. They made it to the last four, better than barca that has a higher wage, but im assuming they will be changing managers. So i dont see how that is something to beat your chest about when that should be expected. Ok so ancelloti go to the finals without his players, hes been at Real since June.

Oh and chelsea and city were picked by many to win the EPL. Who else was? Arsenal? lol, Liverpool? lol Manu? ehh maybe they expected top 4 but come on.

FIFA fair play has nothing to do with this current season. All your telling me is now it will be harder for him to do it. Hes one of the best managers for sure, but to say no one else could have done what he did when its pretty fricking obvious there were 3 other coaches that were in the quaters that could have, and did.

If you think Chelsea's roster is anywhere on par with Barca or Madrid then this debate is done.

And Real bought Bale.

5/2 odds is not picking them to win it.

Yes it does. Someone has not been paying attention.
