Since we have yet to get the young yanks thread stickied to the top… Here’s a comp from the Atlanta United game. He’s got that Clint Dempsey “try shite” gene for sure. His composure, work rate, and reading of the game are very impressive for a 16 year old.

This is such an important time for skill development. Wish he didn’t have to wait until another couple of years to move over to Europe.

He doesn’t. He has a German passport. He might not qualify for a work permit in England but man city has the right to pull him over to Europe and one of their feeder clubs at any time if they feel he’s ready. Honestly at the pace at which he has progressed just over the past few months it wouldn’t surprise me too much if this was his last MLS season. What he’s doing right now is frankly astounding. Between Cavan, Pierre, and Westfield the Philly Union are must watch tv for me right now.

Can you elaborate?

Did you watch the video? When was the last time a 16 year old did that against full pros? He’s started basically every game for Philly since the World Cup and consistently looks like one of the better players on the field.

How many 16 year olds talk like this?

He does seem like one of the few players in mls that are not complacent just playing in mls.
Dude actually hustles

Genuinely hate that he's at City.

This is a question for the people who follow MLS and the youth national teams much more closely than I do.
Are the top prospects at this point (let’s define prospect as a player under 20) Cavan Sullivan, Noahkai Banks, Zavier Gozo, and Adri Mehmeti?
Anyone else?

Same. Should be at Leeds honestly.

Do you think these guys are comprable as prospects to Gio, Musah, Pulisic, and McKennie?

Up for debate how they compare as a group, but no one in the current crop is as highly a rated prospect as Pulisic was.

Cavan and Mathis are viewed as Pulisic level prospects at this point. Prospect is the key word here. People in general see Cavan and Mathis as having higher ceilings than Pulisic. But then again, many thought Reyna’s ceiling was higher, too.

Add Mathis and you have the top five prospect U-20s. Peyton Miller, Neal Pierre, and Justin Ellis are all top prospects now (Miller has been so the longest, he’s been playing up a year at youth national team camps for several cycles now). I hadn’t paid much attention to Ellis until the last few games, but man the kid has some sauce. More an Aguero type striker if I had to compare him to anyone. Less technical, a bit more physical. Ostensibly a forward but plays more like a tucked in winger. Griezmann apparently really likes him. Ellis was the only teammate he followed on insta
This guy makes a really good list if you want to start following closer:

I peruse the various year lists before youth national team competitions so I know which players to watch more closely. Yes I’m a sicko.

quote:I’m not sure I agree with this. Pulisic was scoring goals in the Bundesliga at 17. Sullivan turns 17 in a month and won’t be on the same trajectory. That’s not to say he won’t become a better player one day, but he is not where Pulisic was at that age.

I’m aware Man City has Sullivan’s rights and he can go there at 18. He should go to Troyes until then and see how he stacks up in a top European league.

I contend the 17-18 year old Pulisic at Dortmund was the most fun Pulisic.
Dude wasn't as technical on the ball as he is now, but he would just run at and past dudes for days. The injuries have zapped that top-end speed.

They're also playing different positions, I think its more impressive to be a starting midfielder than a winger at that age
