Amy Lawrence on the youngsters after they beat Bayern 2-0 too
quote:
The second, ghosting in from the wing to finish precisely, he dedicated to one of his coaches, a certain Thierry Henry. “I owe that to him. He told me before the game that most wingers get their goals at the back post so I tried to take his advice on board,” Iwobi said. “Other coaches I have had have all played football but no disrespect to them, I have never had anyone like Thierry. I am basically learning from the best.”
quote:
Dan Crowley and Gedion Zelalem, two of those who are eligible for the under-19s, are on loan with Barnsley and Rangers respectively. Another handful, the likes of England’s Chris Willock and France’s Jeff Reine-Adelaide who would certainly have played against Bayern, are away at the Under-17 World Championship in Chile. Jonker was pleased that without so many potential players Arsenal were still able to beat Bayern. “I think in this age group, from 17-21, we have talented players.”
Arsenal’s team had a mix of English and imported players. Among those to catch the eye was the imposing Finnish goalkeeper Hugo Keto, the Pole Krystian Bielik did a decent impression of Per Mertesacker, and the England youth midfielder Ben Sheaf was dominant and energetic. There is plenty of potential to work with.
quote:
Jonker has been impressed with Henry’s attitude to a new side of the game. “Thierry’s own wish is to be at Arsenal five, six, seven days a week,” the Dutchman observes.

That sucks. Sounds like he's considering resting Sanchez too soon.

So hopefully he will be back to provide some well needed depth around the holidays

While I'm happy with the result, Arsenal certainly made that tough on themselves.
I like how Wenger doesn't try to go ultra defensive very early with his subs any longer, and that Arsenal attack and go for the win, but they have got to somehow do it in a cleaner manner. Losing possession up top while getting caught with too many forward, and having players out of position very nearly bit them in the butt over and over again.

I would have been ok seeing Walcott. Also kind of wanted a sub a bit earlier than ~75'. Will take the points though.

Ox just isn't doing it for me. Getting caught dribbling too much nearly every time, and just booting it forward to the endline trying to whip in a cross. It's okay to play it backwards, or cut inside.

Nice to be at the top of the table, though Shitty has a game in hand.

I missed the last 15 minutes, but I thought Ox really turned it around in the 2nd half.
I know it will likely only be for a day, but it great to see us at the top of the table.
Happy to see us get 3 points against a side I think will finish in the top 7 or so after the effort we had to put in during the week against Bayern.

Well tied top of the table based on points. Good weekend.

ox hasn't developed at all. Damn shame. good victory for the team, could have easily had a let down after Bayern. This team has a coq for a spine.
oh and ozil was brilliant.

My daughter, nine days old today, has yet to witness an Arsenal defeat.
And I doubt she ever shall.

When he and Coquelin score their first goals the celebrations are going to be incredible.
Gabriel and Koscielny give us the fastest pairing of CBs in the league and it isn't even debatable.

I just love the fact that he has shown the ability to pair with Kos or Per when needed. Couldn't have been easy to find someone when we did that would be able to do that.

No question about it. I'll take our combination of defenders over anyone else in the PL right now. I'm including Cech and Coq with the back four.

Gab and Coq have given us the passion and toughness we have been missing for so many years. Love what they bring.
