Yes. Yes they have. Agricultural revolution was approx 10000 years ago. At that time humans needed shelter. What they built was their own. Even those who migrated, like steppe people or Native Americans owned their own shelter...it just moved with them when they moved.

And another. Seems like you are calming down but I’m sure you have another few insulting names to throw out there. Let’s have it.

Of course you’re an Auburn fan. Look, some of us just don’t want to live in trailers

A better way to make this case is, it’s probably not smart to mortgage a half million dollar “forever home” for 30 years when you are already 40 and barely middle class.

You have plans to sell this property for a profit?
No, I personally have plans to sell it at a loss. That's my goal in life, to diminish wealth giving me less financial flexibility as I age vs building wealth and giving me freedom to do whatever the hell I want, or MAYBE...to do what I was put on Earth to do.

Is it an assumption that the US should continue building new houses forever?
Do you own a house?

Let me make sure I've got this correct: you believe there is a problem with making a profit?

It's called supply and demand. As long as there is a free market and there is a demand for more housing, people will build more housing. There is money to be made. It's real simple.

My point or question is this: How much of what you want is what you actually want or what society conditioned you to want? (for profit)
Society didn't condition me to want a house. It was the 5 hurricanes that I went through.

I think we just hit upon the psychology behind the OP
Someone is struggling with life decisions, and trying to justify where they have ended at this point in life

I understand what you're saying. Nomadic tribes didn't even comprehend ownership in the sense of legal titles. Whatever spot of land they were able to defend and occupy was the extent of ownership.
But if you think the system of ownership humans have developed over the past few hundred years is just going to disappear overnight, it won't, because it is extremely popular.
I suppose a new system will come along and replace it, but not anytime soon.
For example, I could see that car ownership might one day become a thing of the past. It's not hard to imagine a large fleet of self driving machines available by app by the hour, day, week, etc. You can have a vehicle available to you only for the times you need it and won't have to pay for it to sit when you don't.

I’m saying that the ‘need’ for new houses (or however many other things) is largely a marketing construct.
Almost onboard with this.
Before I get totally onboard, please explain this marketing barrage that sways us into new homes and away from older, existing homes.
Truly I am interested. I see older homes on market pretty cheap that never move, yet the newer, more expensive homes sell quickly. Leaves me wondering what marketing trick there is that I missed.

oh FFS, just shut up. You're not offering anything new or insightful with whatever it is you're trying to do. Go live your life and let others live theirs.
But most important of all, S T F U.

I do think there is some argument that how we have been living in this country the last 50 years is not sustainable. Multiple generations under one roof was always the norm. But, yeah, I know that's commie gobbledygook.

No.
I’m saying that unless you plan to sell (hopefully) for a profit then whatever we are talking about isn’t a necessarily a financial investment.
