quote:

Nothing ends a Washington career like being branded an unacceptable national-security risk. That’s why officials adjudicating personnel-security cases must act in a mature, objective and nonpartisan fashion. But when it comes to vetting Trump appointees, they often aren’t. Instead, security clearances are being weaponized against the White House by hostile career bureaucrats, thwarting the president’s agenda by holding up or blocking appointees.

Consider the case of Adam Lovinger. Mr. Lovinger is a highly regarded and politically conservative Defense Department official. In January 2017, the Trump administration made a “by name” request for him to serve as a senior director on the White House National Security Council. Before departing the Pentagon that January, Mr. Lovinger raised documented concerns with his supervisor about the misuse of contractors.

One outfit, run by a woman Chelsea Clinton describes as her “best friend,” was being used to perform foreign-relations activities on behalf of the U.S. Mr. Lovinger, an attorney, perceived the arrangement as violating a federal law delineating inherently governmental functions.

He also took issue with millions of dollars in public funds being spent on contractor studies of questionable relevance. One taxpayer-funded study sought to determine whether Americans are a “war-like people.”

And here’s where I become interested:

quote:

Months after Mr. Lovinger raised these issues, the Pentagon suspended his security clearance and his White House detail was canceled without warning. The reason? Specious, and constantly evolving, claims of misconduct. One of Mr. Lovinger’s alleged transgressions was that Pentagon officials had improperly marked an academic report he took aboard an airplane for reading.

The father of three, his family’s primary breadwinner, remains on administrative leave. The same official who suspended Mr. Lovinger’s security clearance is now moving to cut off his pay while the allegations are under review. Amplifying due-process concerns, the panel rendering the final decision reports to the official who suspended him. She refuses to recuse herself or her subordinates despite a conflict of interest.

Meanwhile, Pentagon officials ignored a longstanding executive order requiring they provide the accused with the government’s evidence within 30 days. This forced Mr. Lovinger to respond blindly to vague allegations, then contend with bureaucrats claiming he did not adequately rebut documents he has never seen. Pentagon officials underscored their contempt for anyone who challenges them by leaking false, defamatory information about Mr. Lovinger.

Lovinger also reportedly took issue with payments to Stefan Halper.

Did the Trump administration revoke Brennan’s clearance (in part) as a tarbaby for the Left?

LBJ set all this in motion for nefarious reasons. Obama has installed deep-state anti-American operatives in every tentacle of the governmental bureaucracy. It will take a generation or more for this to be weeded out - and that is if we are lucky enough to hire honest people in the interim.

From a book I read last year. Still on point today;
quote:

At both places, officers and analysts had their workspaces arranged into cubicle plantations where one anonymous, vindictive, or lazy person could derail an investigation, kill a lead, or spike a report.

It puzzles me as to why Trump (His management personnel) shows any modicum of respect for blatant Dem/Prog Operatives who "weaponize" essential Bureaucratic mechanisms. A couple of high-level firings with a 'sue me' thrown in would get the ball rolling. They are going to "resist" and the MSM scream 'wolf' no matter what, in every way - even criminal, as the evidence shows - so what the hell is the problem with taking the gloves off.

This is correct. He placed political zealots throughout the civil service system in every agency of our government, which ironically the federal civil service was created specifically to avoid exactly that. The Pentagon shouldn't be political, nor the Justice Department, etc etc.

Trump needs to order his agency heads to start firing people. Let them sue if they want, but they need to be gone post haste.

It's pretty clear at this point that:

1.) Trump really isn't that focused on resetting FedGov to clear the swamp
2.) The swamp is just too deeply ingrained, and at this point there is nothing Trump or anyone else can do about it.

I'm not sure which option is more acceptable for me: Knowing that we just need to get the right guy to break it and Trump is not it, or finally being able to just accept it and stop being disappointed.

The apparatus of the state has been infected since the 70s. It’s not changing in a year or two years. It will take sustained attention from both the Executive branch AND the voters for years and years to effect a change.

I disagree. You don’t eat an entire cake in one bite, especially one that is as big and shitty as the swamp. It’s going to take 8 years of Trump and, hopefully, another 8 years of Pompeo

Yeah, I agree...It's the Mueller investigation that is handcuffing everything Trump does and they know it. That's why it is being dragged out (midterms as well). He's trying to tip toe some so as to not rock the boat too much while the press screams "hitler" at him. I think once the timing is right or he's in the clear, Trump should run scorched earth on any of the douches standing in his way of MAGA>.

What can the Orange One do? He's fighting a system that is deliberately designed to keep one man from having too much power. And that's probably a good thing regardless of whether you agree with that one man or not.

The reality is we need a new Speaker of the House and a new Senate Majority Leader, people who agree with Trump on a variety of issues and who actually agree with him about cleaning up the swamp, because laws will have to be changed to clean up this mess. It's far beyond what a President can fix.
