I dont know if this is something they are really willing to compromise over or just a persons opinion but someone on reddit said McConnell would agree to a compromise if it was:

1. Amnesty for DACA

2. No Amnesty for anyone who entered after age 18

3. $20b for the wall

How would yall feel about that? Seems like a semi-reasonable deal.

No amnesty. They can get green cards and start the process. No one deserves to get squatter's rights when it comes to citizenship.

Nope. Complete deal breaker.

See above

3. $20b for the wall

I'll give you 1 & 2 if you give me 3 & elimination of chain migration. Also, enacting 1 & 2 would be suspended until COMPLETION of the wall. Until then, the DACA folks would be legal but not citizens.

Honestly, where is the Dems leverage here? DACA can just run out and the president can set the enforcement principles moving forward. If Dems hold up appropriations over wall funding, and shut down the government, again, the optics for them are terrible.

End the diversity visa lottery. End chain migration. Build the wall.

In exchange, DACA can stay subject to good behavior. After 12 years, if the wall is built, they can begin the process for citizenship without having to return to their home country. They do not get any sort of priority. They start at the back of the line like anyone else.

No wall, no path to citizenship that does not include them returning home.

1 Wall.
2 Merit based immigration. No lotteries or chains.
3 No citizenship, permanent work visa that allows participation in paid into government entitlements such as social security, but no welfare. No vote, and deportation upon felony conviction.

change #1 to green cards for daca, no benefits, no voting rites for 10 years, if they get in any kind of trouble(gangs, dui, etc.) during that 10 years, they gone.

No Amnesty. There has to be a cost or the next invasion starts the second after it's made law.

Period.

Now - maybe they can stay, get expedited credentials (for a fee), then push back citizenship/voting for 25 years - and if they commit a crime or APPLY for benefits - immediate deportation.

And, we end chain migration for everybody.

That's as far as I'm willing to go - anything else rewards (heavily) bad behavior and just sets the stage for another invasion.

It's a non-starter with your #1. They need to follow the legal process already in place for coming to this country. Period, end of discussion.

No amnesty at all

I agree with this right here. I think the green card rule would be the best way to go about this.

I'm ok with DACA not being given citizenship, but they need a path to citizenship. By it's very design, people here under DACA protections are required to be lawful, contributing members of society. They cannot break a single law or they will lose their protected status.

They are in a limbo of sorts, they can't become citizens, and they don't want to leave this country. There is no path to citizenship for them.

Green Cards which allow them to live and work is a great start and after a certain period they can become citizens.
