I prefer daylight saving. I don’t like time changes. But I’d rather get up when it’s dark and watch the sunrise, and have extra time in the evening outside. We live on a wild mountain property and there’s never ending work. And I have young very active boys and I’d rather deal with it being light at bedtime than trapped inside with them after dark before bedtime. Hiking, fishing, soccer, swimming in the lake and river. Etc.
not too often I admire people I do not know - but given those attributes, there must not be anything to dislike - You hit all the high points.
Your description makes me think of Coeur d'Alene - One of the nicest places I visited on my motorcycle wanderings thru the west back in 2006-2014 = within short drive to the most magnificent geographical wonders I've ever seen.

Actually, his biggest mistake/worst action as President was to restart giving an annual SOTU speech every single year, in which the current President promises everything under the Sun.

And, while he was incapacitated with a stroke, his wife acted as President for an extended period of time. They were Joetatoe and Dr Jill a century ahead of time.

Of course Wikipedia loves him:
quote:
Into the 21st century, historians have criticized Wilson for supporting racial segregation, although they continue to rank Wilson as an above-average president for his accomplishments in office. Conservatives in particular have criticized him for expanding the federal government, while others have praised his weakening the power of large corporations and have credited him for establishing modern liberalism.

What are you doing out there at 8:00 at night in the daylight?!?
Playing golf. Doing yard work when it isn't 105 degrees.

Idiot liberal losers decided they needed more daylight since they all wake up at noon. Most people with jobs are in bed by 8.
There is no reason the sun needs to be out at 8. Liberals completely fricked up how time works in this country.

Leftists truly could suck the fun out of a helium balloon. They find a way to ruin everything. Even the clocks.

If any of you had a political science professor in college, just imagine him as President. That's Wilson.

Probably worst of all, the 19th amendment. Nanny state and FDR inbound.
quote:
Wilson’s voice proved unequivocal in the ultimate passing of the 19th amendment. In a 1918 speech before the Congress, Wilson – for the first time in his time in office – publically endorsed women’s rights to vote. Realizing the vitality of women during the First World War, President Wilson asked Congress, “We have made partners of the women in this war… Shall we admit them only to a partnership of suffering and sacrifice and toil and not to a partnership of privilege and right?”

Coeur d'Alene
Used to spend a lot of time in nearby silver valley. Had property there. Idaho is still largely untapped wilderness and just amazing.
One of my fondest Idaho memories was actually a scary moment at the time. Missed a turn off to get to backcountry (Selway-Bitterroot wilderness) hot springs bc got a late start and it was dark. Kept climbing thinking surely we should be there. Sinking into snow down to knees every step.
Finally decided to stop and camp. Woke up the next morning to breathtaking views. Decided to ditch the hot springs that trip and venture into a gorge. Sat in the sun for a couple hours just soaking it in.
Hiked out and the sun and warming temps had created so much runoff that the mildly sketchy creek crossings on the way in had turned to deadly raging crossings. You’re looking at it saying, “If I slip on this log, I’m dead. Zero doubt.”
I’d do it again (well I didn’t have kids then so maybe I’d be smarter about it, but it’s those unplanned adventures that tend to be most memorable).

He was also a horrible racist.
Ignored the First Amendment.
Knew damn good and well war was coming and lied to the people and did nothing until war was declared to build up the military.

Wrong.
They weren't equal partners because they weren't subject to conscription.

If you like it. You’re a communist. Just like Woodrow Wilson.
The guy was more a fascist dictator, a puppet-proxy of his masters -- The Banking Overlords.
Fwiwi I never reset my clocks the DST. I just mentally react to life as though I'm an hour early for all events.

Easily the worst president of all time and 1914 is the worst year in American politics: Fed Reserve and the Fed Income Tax.

quote:How are you coming to this conclusion? The Bolshevik Revolution began before US troops arrived in Europe. If anything, I think you could say that having a massive military mobilized for WW1 allowed us to intervene during the Russian Civil War.
Wilson also campaigned on not getting us into WW1 and then immediately dragged us into it
The Soviet Union would have never existed,

So, how did the Senators used to happen? Governors appointed them?
