Politico article

quote:

n the long, tumultuous political career of Senator John McCain, it would have been remembered as a turning point. It was only rumored at the time. But the Arizona senator nearly bolted from the Republican Party in 2001.

In secret negotiations with then-Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle, McCain plotted how he would depart the GOP. He was furious over the way the party establishment had treated him in the 2000 race for the Republican presidential nomination against the eventually victorious George W. Bush. And within weeks of Bush’s swearing-in as president in 2001, McCain told Daschle that he was looking for a way out of the GOP, probably by declaring himself an independent—a move that would have thrown control of the otherwise 50-50 Senate to the Democrats. The negotiations got far enough, Daschle later told me, that the two men discussed the logistics of the news conference at which McCain would make the announcement. “We came very close,” Daschle said.

quote:

Republicans currently hold 52 Senate seats. Two or three defections would swing the balance of power in the Senate to the Democrats—a political earthquake that would give Democrats control of the Senate confirmation process for executive branch and Supreme Court nominees, as well as the ability to launch more aggressive investigations of Trump and his administration, including of possible collusion between Russia and his 2016 presidential campaign. It would also make Republican priorities from Obamacare repeal to tax reform even less likely.

Would not surprise me at all, and I would not be surprised to see Collins flip to I either. I really doubt 3 would flip though.

I had never heard Susan Collins speak before last month. I've heard her now in 4 or 5 video clips. I had no idea she was that stupid. She sounds just like Hillary Clinton.

There's no chance of that, retard. Look at the 2018 seats up for grabs.

Also if McCain left the GOP after voting for Obamacare I think we'd see a legit recall effort started.

generally? i guess

with McCain? no it's the opposite. he's the worst of both and why he's the worst national politician in the US

he's a huge hawk who also loves welfare programs and is socially conservative

I wouldn't call him the worst, but he embodies many negative traits.

The one thing about mccain is he is less corrupt than the rest of the senate.

why would he? Move to the minority from the majority, he can still vote as a democrat anyway.

Hmmmmm Pretty hard to leave something you were never really a part of!

Just because you were listed with an R by your name doesn't make you a real republican. Hence the word RINO.

I sure wish he and all the other so called republicans that really aren't would get kicked out. At least then people would see that the republicans don't really have a majority. Every time that an important bill comes around, phone calls are made and these so called republicans are given their marching orders.

If you are republican moderate does that mean you are a RINO?

If you are democrat moderate does that mean you are a DINO?

Before 1/20 they should of had repeal and replace ready. Not just the congress, but Trump admin as well. If they had this it would of passed 5 to 6 months ago.
