They can charge higher premiums for smokers so why couldn't they do it for the unvaxxed?

I'm not saying they should.

If insurance companies can charge a premium for being unvaxxed then they could itemize every health risk per individual and charge extra for high blood pressure, obesity, family history of various medical issues…..it could get real crazy real quick.

The ACA basically put into place how insurance carriers can rate individual policies. They did away with all underwriting and all policies are guarantee issued. The ONLY exception for underwriting is smoking. I believe Congress would have to amend the ACA.

That is MY understanding.

I’ve started to wonder when the feds will lean on the big insurers and make this a thing. Trust that they will do everything in their power to squeeze out unvaxxed people. Pure evil.

Can they legally look at your vax record? Free vax shots are all over, how would they ever know?

I agree with you.
That is why I asked this question.

I wouldn't put it past this administration to try and use ins companies to force the vaccine.

I have a $500 surcharge on my health insurance this year for being pure blood.

Meanwhile I am possibly the only person in my office that hasn’t been sick since this entire debacle started.

I guess I’ll just keep subsidizing everyone else’s health cost.

So if you are an employer and you pay your employees insurance do you pay higher premiums for the unvaxxed?

They do if I smoke a cigar on the golf course.

Its institutionalized extortion.

If that's the case, there are many people who never get the flu vaccine. Will they go after them as well? I think this would open a can of worms they wouldn't want.

No, it's a pre-existing condition.

Your insurance company isn’t doing this. It’s your employer.

Employers can charge employees different health coverage premiums and even give offer different plans. After all we don’t want the govt telling private business how they should act. Supreme court just agreed with that.

As spomeone else mentioned this is your employer adding the surcharge.

Ask your fellow employees and employer to send you a thank you note.

Will they? Yes. Can they? Yes. Should they? Probably because the market will dictate it.

I’m charged $100/mo to be unvaxxed.

I had covid last august, no hospital, just Advil and vitamins and I worked through it because we were still working from home.

Seems fair.

They make customers declare tobacco usage and adjust rates accordingly, so probably.
