Almost 100 miles away from Ground Zero (Ft Myers) - Why did the media trick people in Tampa to evacuate which a lot of people did to Fort Myers?

How did the Governemt run Hurricane Center be off by 100 fricking miles? I know these storms can be tricky but it's just odd to me that they were off by this much.

Were the Media and National Hurricane Center the cause of a lot of deaths because of mis-information to make DeSantes look like a bad Governor?

Something is just not adding up to me on this Hurricane (and I have been through a LOT of them)

What an idiot. Seriously. This is one of the dumbest fricking takes I’ve seen on this board.

As day broke in Tampa Bay on Thursday, those who’d stayed behind emerged to assess the damage.

They found fallen trees blocking streets, branches dropped on cars and large signs for supermarkets and tourist attractions toppled — but, thankfully, not the widespread destruction they’d feared from one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the U.S.

“Lucky,” “fortunate,” “thankful” and “minimal” were the words repeated by local government officials as they updated residents on Hurricane Ian’s aftermath.

The Category 4 storm hewed to the experts’ final forecasts, decimating Florida’s Gulf Coast 100 miles south, but once again sparing Tampa Bay from a dreaded direct hit. Instead, Tampa Bay residents grappled with images of storm-surge-flooded homes in Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties and breathed an uneasy sigh of relief under startlingly sunny skies.

Agree completely. This one has been off since it formed. Strength, Speed and Landfall... All off. Wonder why?

I'm not saying it is a conspiracy theory frick head. I am just asking a simple legit question. 100 miles is a long distance to be off considering every fricking hurricane before this one was pretty much on point with predictions.

24 hrs prior to landfall the NHC made it clear it was coming in south.

With the approcach angle, it was hard to tell exactly where it would cross the coast.

Ft Myers was in the hurricane warning area just like Tampa was.

For years the NHC has readily said rapid intensification is the one area where they still don't understand a lot of what is happening.

Now why was the national media in Tampa? You don't expect them to get too close to the action, do you?

And if anyone evacuated from Tampa to Ft. Myers... I'm sorry they are a damn idiot. People leaving Tampa should have gone north, not south.

I disagree - Florida is by far the best state with the best cities in my opion.

I was just rubbing it in the face of all the people on this site who hate Atlanta because of a shitty football rivalry between the Saints and Falcons

You're certainly entertaining the idea of a conspiracy

If that's not a conspiracy theory then I don't know what the hell is

Ian is not the one to question. They were pretty damn close on it.

The one to go back and look at is the one when Romney was running for president. RNC was supposed to be held in Tampa. The track was being hyped by the media as hitting during that convention. It ended up west of New Orleans.

Your OP implies that you believe the NHC tried to get people from Tampa to evacuate to Ft Meyers.

You should self report the thread and just hope everyone forgets how stupid it is.

Nope - My OP is stating that the Media and Hurricane Center got it WRONG which is the reason there are more deaths then normal and it so happens to be in the middle of an election year where THEY hate the Governor of the State where the Hurricane is hitting.
