Mexico is part of the North American continent, is it not? Is there more gulf coastline in the USA or Mexico?
So, based on the answers to those two questions alone, I can at least understand why the name change.
Mexico has more coastline on the Gulf than the US does.

What is the reasoning for Turkey?
They wanted the English version to more closely reflect the Turkish pronunciation and spelling. It really isn't complicated, and there is no woke angle to it whatsoever.

No shite, Sherlock. WHY?

You can dance around it all you want, but they thought Turkey was too white/American/not ethnic sounding enough.

They are pandering to the muzzies. They are called Turkey in English, and thays what they should be calling them.
Either call every team by their native name or call them all by their English name. But this retarded pandering needs to stop.
Turkey indeed gets to decide its own name in international bodies. No one outside of Turkey implemented the change. There is no pandering. Its how they choose to be presented in English for the international organizations they belong to.
The Czechs just did the same thing, as have many other nations over the years. Slovakia, Eswatini, and to some extent the Ivory Coast uses its French name much more broadly in English ,just to name a few.

Everyone. Literally everyone in the thread, has told you the answer.
You're ignoring it and insisting on taking the absolutely insane position that somehow "they" are being woke or that this is some sort of DEI thing.

Wrong. The USA has more mainland continental actual coastline along the geographical area of the gulf. Mexico only wins when you count a bunch of small barrier islands that aren't the mainland coastline wrapping around the gulf. Most of the geographical area of the gulf is surrounded by U.S. coastline.
"When measuring strictly mainland coastline (using standard general-outline methods that exclude islands, barrier islands, and intricate internal bays), the United States has more coastline along the Gulf of Mexico than Mexico."

Wrong.
Nope. Mexico has approx. 100 more miles of coastline on the Gulf than the US does. The US has WAY more barrier islands, coastal inlets, etc than Mexico does on the Gulf, so the AI sentence you quoted doesn't make any sense.

Again, no.
But lets get back to talking about how stupid your take on Turkey's name is.

A non English nation does not get to determine what English speakers call them in the English language. This is the most retarded thing I have read all day. They didnt change their name. They have called themselves that forever.

On an individual basis, maybe not (no one cares what you and your buddies in Atlanta call it amongst yourselves), but I’ve got news for you with respect to international bodies and media.

No one is telling you that you have to use it. But FIFA does, because Turkey asked them to

I had to google it last night to figure it out. AI said that it was at the request of Turkey, because they thought it was getting confused with the Thanksgiving bird.
But that’s the place the name of the bird was derived from.

Ignorant how? Again, be specific. Because a mere perusal of the daily news backs up everything I said.
