I saw it, and immediately assumed it was ESPN's leftist crybabies pandering like they so love to do.
who are they pandering to? Turks?

Just a further reminder that they're pretty vulnerable if anybody wants to make a run at the worldwide leader.
Ill forward to David Ellison

Seems like some pussies were outraged about stupid shite when they made it a point to change the spelling and pronunciation after several decades... because it sounded to American or "white" or something. frick you, bitch.
only snowflakes like you think this is why they changed the spelling of Turkey on ESPN during a world wide soccer tournament

The Czech Republic is still the Czech Republic. Czechia is the UN nickname.
I heard different a while back. Czech is an adjective describing the Republic, comparable to calling France "the French Republic." Czechia is a noun and the official short form geographical name. The longer term is the official political name.

Hope you handled it ok when Swaziland changed their name to Eswatini to avoid confusion with Switzerland in 2018?
Much like Turkey and Erdogan the ruler there had some less noble reasons to do it.
Basic temporary distraction tactics. Whatever, I don't live there.

All this woke modification of historical geographic names is upsetting.
How in the frick is this “woke”?
What's the reason for the change?

Hey, f@ggot. I knew it was changed before that. The question is why? Why now, after decades and decades, was it necessary to change now to make it sound/look more ethnic in it's spelling and pronunciation?
frick you, libtard TDS bitch.

The country requested that international bodies start refute it that way, which is how it is referred to in Turkish and has been since the founding of the country.

My oncologist is from Turkey and his UAB bio doesn’t spell it Türkiye. It’s Turkey. Mehmet Akce if you want to look it up.

been to the Gulf of America lately?
Mexico is part of the North American continent, is it not? Is there more gulf coastline in the USA or Mexico?
So, based on the answers to those two questions alone, I can at least understand why the name change. What is the reasoning for Turkey?

Its retarded. We dont call Spain Espana or Germany Deutschland.
They are pandering to the muzzies. They are called Turkey in English, and thays what they should be calling them.
Either call every team by their native name or call them all by their English name. But this retarded pandering needs to stop.

So, why was this all the sudden and issue now, after decades of it being fine as Turkey? You can dance around it all you want, but they thought Turkey was too white/American/not ethnic sounding enough. Which is just more modern woke bullshite. Claim it's not if you want, but we all know and they know why they felt it was necessary to make the change recently.
