re: Why New Yorkers really elected Mamdani: an op-Ed that sounds right

Mamdani didn’t win because New York suddenly fell in love with socialism.
He won because he captured something every politician should be listening to right now — a deep frustration that the system doesn’t feel fair anymore
quote:
And here’s the twist: That frustration isn’t confined to struggling families or low-income voters. It’s spreading among people who are doing fine — the educated, ambitious, upwardly mobile professionals who were supposed to be living the dream but can’t shake the feeling that they’re falling behind.
quote:
They’ve done everything right — the schools, the hours, the hustle — and yet they still feel stuck.
Rents climb faster than salaries. Taxes eat away their paychecks. Buying a home feels impossible.
There’s a lot of truth here, and more at the link.
What they don't realize, if they knew about the rest of the world, we will have a long way to fall.

Born on third and think they hit a triple. The unwarranted arrogance of that generation knows no end. Well that's not true. In 20 years, most of them, if not all will be dust
If I look at my buying power from just 10 years ago, it’s not much more than what I’m making now and that’s with multiple significant raises (not COL raises).
People acting as if this isn’t an issue are fricking fooling themselves. And that’s a problem that’s been cause by both sides even if no one wants to admit it.

quote:Yep you still got mommy's teat foam. Got what 40 more years to work and pay Social Security? Assuming you have a decent job, you and your company likely pay 10,000+ a year to Social Security. With increases, you'll end up paying close to a Million dollars to boomers. How many bass boats do you think you'll end up buying for those dreaded boomers? Can't wait till I retire and can start spending YOUR money. Ha ha.
You boomers stick together.

What “truth” are you referring to? New York government leaders and inept politicians causes mass inflation and if the Democrats had their way millions of more illegals would be in the country continuing to drain the system even further which would require massive increases in government spending. What the op-ed is really saying is we don’t like the results of our political leadership that we voted for therefore we are going to double down on stupid by electing someone who is promising more spending which will create even higher expenses

they are not doing well they need to see how miserable they will be in socialism.
Honestly this seemed like a lot of “eff it” votes, disguised as hope
I think it’s mostly blowing up the cuomo establishment, albeit with some socialist and Muslim wings uniting in the coalition.

thinking socialism can fix that is next-level insanity.
Socialism is rooted in anger, not fixing things.
Its an ideology centered around pointing a finger at (ironically) a minority of people... "the rich", "the ruling class" etc etc.
Basically the plan is this:
1. Gain power
2. Get rid ____ Group, or just tax the shite out of everyone but especially ______ group
3. ??????
4. Everything is now fixed

Well, that's partly because of an established corporatocracy that people are still mistakenly labeling as "capitalism", and an Etatist Kleptocracy that runs the nation that is supposed to be a Constitutional Republic but is still disingenuously called "our democracy".
