Liberal icon Cesar Chavez was vehemently against legal and illegal immigration. He understood supply and demand. A high supply of labor results in low wages.

The only reason it hasn't happened IMO is that the powers that control the old guard of the Republican party know that if they don't play it right it will trigger a full out war between them and Tea Party/Liberatarians that would probably cost them control of the party for good.
My guess is they let Obama do it via EO so they can pretend to stomp their feet in the press while celebrating behind closed doors.

This. Then when a Republican Pres repeals it in 2016, they'll claim "victory". frick 'em all. There is no room for compromise on this.

Obama will look at this like a no lose situation. He either gets 20,000,000 votes voting at an 80% clip for the Dems which is a win or he gets impeachment proceedings which will get spun his way leadng in to the 2016 election.

Amnesty doesn't grant citizenship though..they still can't vote. I know people think voter fraud, but stats from previous years show only about 6 percent of illegals manage to cast a vote, and with the new voter ID laws in Texas I don't think they'll get that many anymore.
To grant those people citizenship or provide a path to citizenship, they'll have to pass an immigration bill through Congress. An Executive Order can be undone by the next President, and if Obama tries to pull off amnesty that way he is opening the door for a GOP president in 2016. I really think at this point he is just grandstanding...I don't see him accomplishing it, and if he does do it, it'll destroy the Dems in the next election.
