Many in government probably benefit from the black market aspect, or are paid under the table by those that do.

Uber rich and politicians would not get the monopoly for the medical marijuana industry ala Louisiana. Pay off millions to corrupt politicians = profit.

You’re right. But you do realize most folks who regularly use THC do not smoke it? And a majority of them aren’t exactly ghetto trash.

Tobacco industry and alcohol industry.
If legal everywhere, weed would quickly overtake alcohol as the #1 substance used by most people to relax after work..
It would replace cigarettes, because why smoke cigarettes when legalized weed can provide that same satisfaction one can get from inhaling.

I've never used marijuana. I don't care if it's legal or not. But I did read a fascinating study years ago about the negative effect you never hear about. This was back in the 1990s before I had internet.
They took a large group of college freshmen. They divided the group between those who use marijuana and those who do not. They made the sample equal in IQs. They checked their status 2 years later looking at GPAs and how many had dropped out.
The marijuana users had a significantly higher dropout rate and much lower GPAs.
They attributed the difference to lethargy. Non users had a paper to write or exam to prep for and they did it immediately. Users decided 'I'll do that stuff tomorrow' and they never did.

Not a lot of people smoking cigarettes anymore anyway.
I can’t imagine weed legalization would have ANY effect on these numbers or that there is a single cigarette smoker who is only smoking those because weed is not legal.
That’s just dumb. They offer completely different stimulations and cigarettes don’t really hinder one’s ability to do anything.
I’m not vouching for one or decrying the other. Just pointing out a silly point.

Weed is the best all natural "pain" med
Why would big pharma want weed completely legal ? How many pain meds would go out of business as a result of wide spread weed use?

Because this trash population would just devolve into further degeneracy

Too much money in prohibition.

The Democrats are saving it for a rainy day and the Republicans let the Evangelicals and Police decide for them

Yep, I wonder how many legit businesses are involved in money laundering. Probably way more than most think.

Crazy how Fentanyl, Heroin, Cocaine and Crack are pretty much legalized but Weed is a HUGE No-No.

A majority of the population supports this
This isn’t true in a lot of places, which is why many states still have it illegal.
Why it isn’t legal at the federal level? Probably because constituents from those states would get pissed at their congressmen and senators if they pass a bill.

Oh, I always thought that stuff was legalized because there are hundreds of thousands of homeless zombies living on the streets in tents shooting that shite up in the middle of the day in broad daylight

Wouldn’t it be a win win for everyone to legalize it?
That is all we need...to legalize the ability of the dumb and lazy to become even more so while they suck off the teat of the American taxpayer.
If we can alter the system to allow those with bad habits (e.g., overeating, smoking, alcohol, legal and illegal drugs, obesity, gambling, etc.) to
- not sponge off others by being on disability, unemployment, food stamps, etc.,
- removing their ability to file bankruptcy, and
- have them pay higher health insurance/Medicare premiums commensurate with generally higher associated medical costs;
then I am for the having complete freedom.
Until then...get a job.

It is an issue that is better left to the states to resolve. Far too much emphasis and responsibility is given to the federal government for solutions to issues that work best when implemented by state jurisdiction.

Or could it be that lazy asses are more prone to get high?
