Imagine if they had a free press, free internet, free speech, and gun rights.

They LITERALLY have mandatory unit meetings (neighborhoods?) wherein you MUST tell what you have done wrong and what you have seen your neighbor or family do wrong on a regular basis (weekly?).
The group leader MUST report to his higher up, etc. If anyone is found to be subversive OR to not report subversive attitudes / actions...that person is in a metric frick-ton of trouble.
It is very efficient at keeping rabble rousing VERY closely held and not public at all.

My SIL grew up 25 km from the North Korean border and she says the rural North Korean DO know . They sneak through her village at night , completely disheveled, stealing food , and there is even a network of Chinese who hide and shelter them . She says there is a phrase in Chinese “ one bag of rice - one wife, two bags of rice - two wives” that speaks to the value of N Korean brides. I think that those in Pyongyang are generally living WAY above the North Korean mean and are invested in preserving the status quo and these are the only people Western travelers encounter. I think it would fold like a house of cards outside the military and Pyongyang. Those people would bolt for the borders.

The only hope it would have is if at least some of the military actually joined the people.
But the most likely end game is 100% of the revolutionaries dying.
