why does the left hate gerrymandering so much when they do the same thing in blue states?

It's just like anything else. They only hate it when it's used against them.

There’s a reason Sheila Jackson Lee continues to be re-elected.

Does anyone up in here remember the Cleo Fields 'lightning bolt'?

Because they can wail that Republicans are trying to rig elections and get complete cover from the media.

Because if they didn’t have double standards they wouldn’t have any standards at all.

They are moral relativists who will use any and every tool and tactic for their own gain while condemning any tool and tactic (even if they are the same ones that they otherwise support) when it suits their needs.
When you don't subscribe to objective truth and morality, you're free to be entirely inconsistent.

That's the dirty little secret they don't want anyone pondering: they benefit far more from gerry-mandering than the GOP does. Quite a few minority members in the House (maybe even a majority of them) have their seats SOLELY because their districts were gerrymandered specifically to create minority districts.

Because they're no better than the people they hate.

They went hard in Missouri for a gerrymandering bill.
The original bill was worded where people were confused which side they wanted. It passed, but Jeff city was able to get a new Bill, explaining exactly what new bill meant.
Hollywood spent millions, Arnold gave a few millions, and Holder got 5mil raised for it.
Liberals had spent millions to get it passed, Conservatives spent nothing, and it failed miserably.
It was a win for the voters, and a middle finger to Holder, stl,kc, libtards and their ilk.

I say it in every thread where gerrymandering is discussed but gerrymandering is one of the most American institutions there is. It's been a thing since 1812 and I have no problem with it. Win local elections when it comes time to redraw districts.
If you want to completely get rid of gerrymandering you'll also have to support getting rid of minority-majority districts.

I doubt there's much complaining at the state level from those blue states.
At the national level it's simply because there are more red states than blue.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.
ETA: In Georgia at least, it would be possible to get 1-2 majority-minority districts without purposefully doing so.

Seeing maps like this makes me want to kick a puppy. I hate gerrymandering. It gives you unimpeachable candidates from both parties. In this day and age, you'd think we could impartially create these using a computer.

Balance that a bit. Run a hundred thousand permutations. Top ten get brought to a board of elected officials, they pick the three they like. Put all three in a hat, pull out rando. Done and done. Good mix of tech/human and old/new ways of doing things.

Cleo fields was the poster child for this. They created the most insane district for him to win.

The same reason they tell you asking for a photo ID is racist.

quote:that’s not really gerrymandering because a court order required those districts get made to ensure at least one minority got elected to Congress
SOLELY because their districts were gerrymandered specifically to create minority districts.
What that also does is make the R districts near there uncompetitive for them as well, so it worked out for both parties
