is framed as "gun control" instead of the war on guns or the war on gun violence?

Other than how ridiculous the war on gun violence is as a statement?

In general we don't have a good word in our vocab outside of war to make catchy slogans for societal change with.

So you're asking why we have a "war on drugs" or a "war on terror", but no (official) "war on guns"?

That's a pretty stupid question. The comparison is apples and pomegranites.

Can you elaborate on what's confusing you?

Why would you compare a illegal/undesirable behaviors or substances to a constitutionally protected right?

We haven't declared "war" on a single facet of society that we've actually won. STFU.

Semantics and optics. Nothing more. I mean it really doesn't give off good vibes to say "war on gun violence" when war kinda implies gun violence.

Sure...use both hands...control your weapon.

That's what you mean right?

OP didn't revise her OP in any way.

So cut to the chase OP and move to Londistan, England where the war on guns and knives won.

Knives are only allowed as machetes to behead you for not obeying Sharia Law.

Why don’t you tell your side to stop using guns for illegal purposes.

Ahhhhhh they kinda are.

Gun violence is only high in very specific segments of society.
Very specific demographics.

If you waged war on “guns” you’d have to go after the parts of society that are the worse offenders.

The US has a gun related violence rate similar to Belgium if you take away minorities.

Great point, actually. Declaring war on something ensures that no progress will be made to eliminate whatever it is on which the war is declared.

Yeah maybe, but those opposed to the efforts (most of the country) probably roll their eyes at the constant categorization of violence as "gun violence" because they understand the point of the modifier is to oppose guns

And those in support of the efforts probably worry it's too broad and risks targeting their bedrock communities and the causes of "gun violence" which they don't actually concern themselves with.

But in reality I think there is simply no real mandate for change or increased pressure on anything to do with gun regulation, and the left is probably pretty unexcited about trying anything fresh in that regard.

I agree with this all. I’m curious as to why what we know as gun control was ever labeled gun control in the first place. I guess the palatable angle makes some sense. Maybe no one thought the movement would take off.
