My wife is very politically astute. When she tries to discuss issues with her female coworkers she is shocked by their ignorance. They are not stupid. They simply avoid political reading or TV because it doesn't interest them. When it comes time to vote they just latch on to single phrase descriptions they hear.
Word association would be like this:
Jan. 6 Capital riot: 'It was bad.'

All one need do is watch any of the justice networks' series, particularly "I Survived..."
It's gruesome what so many of them have suffered - which in so many instances could have been avoided.
Don't think the marxian manipulators/behaviorists haven't been aware of their characteristics, particularly their want for acceptance and their vanity.
The propagandist/marketer/manipulator supreme - Edward Bernays - exploited those two characteristics consummately, and got generations of them hooked on cigarettes, with subsequent marches through pulmonary wards and early deaths as their "reward."
Even though he wouldn't allow his own wife to smoke in his house.
