Lost in all the student loan bullshite is the bigger question… why does it cost an excess of $20K a year to take mostly online courses so some burnout English professor can make a 6 figure salary to type “orange man bad” on a laptop all day?

1. Because they can.
2. Indoctrination.
3. Money laundering for the Marxist regime.

Because idiots will sign up for worthless degrees because daddy will pay for it and loans are available to cover living expenses.

So you can go to college athletic events.

Because the federal government is subsidizing them.
Kind of like why our primary education system sucks. Government f's everything up.

The student loan model is similar to the health insurance model. It separates the consumer from the payment of the product in a way that desensitizes them from price constraints. That will generally force prices upward. Universities take advantage of this by cranking out worthless, overpriced degree programs to catch as many suckers as possible. They do the same with corporate tuition assistance, which has given rise to expensive, low quality EMBA programs.

College is quickly becoming obsolete. The totality of human knowledge is instantly available from the palm of your hand.
75% of universities will be ghost towns in a generation.

1000000% because of the easy student loan money.
It is the reason everything goes up in price.
Houses in the 2000's and 2010's?
New car prices... $80k 7 year loans with no income verification?
I am not against student loans but I think the universities need to have skin in the game. They need to be incentivized to provide an education and have their students pass. Schools that aren't passing a proper amount of students shouldn't be eligible to receive money from student loans. It would be fantastic if the schools had to back the loans too in some way.
The only positive from todays announcement is they signaled they want to do something about the increasing cost of education... the bad thing is they want to give away more money to bring costs down... that is just going to push the price up more.

They do it because they know people will be stupid enough to pay it.

This x1000.
It’s easy to blame 18 year olds who are…to put it nicely….not completely “mature,” but these university administrators know exactly what they are doing.

A lot of trade school grads make big bucks.
Get a marketable education- not some BS degree in women's studies or art history.
