For the same reason conservatives get upset every time somebody screams racism. I know it's hard to believe but just because you don't agree with someone about any particular topic that doesn't mean they like frickin little kids.
And the constant crying wolf with pedo's lurking around every corner does a disservice in actually fighting pedophilia (most of which occurs in the home) and sex trafficking etc.

My response was an assumption that you were amplifying one particular avenue of trafficking (the border) in order to push your preferred government policy unrelated to trafficking directly (the border wall).
If we want to fight trafficking, there are better and more efficient uses of our resources. THAT is my argument.

(1) for some, it’s s core political issue for those they hate. Thus anything that harms their opponents is good for them snd vice versa.
(2) For others, the escalation of the issue reduces the attention to their pet issues. Thus, while they may not oppose the position, they seek to minimize the issue
(3) For a small portion, it’s jus an issue that draws attention. They can then play contriarian snd get lots of attention
