You're acting like you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was telling the truth and being facetiously hyperbolic. Perhaps he was, perhaps not. My position is that it wasn't a good look under any circumstances, in part precisely because it leads to conversations like this where one's racial motivations can plausibly be called into question.

Again, I'm not calling him a racist. I don't know enough about him, nor do I really care. But it's unreasonable to comport oneself in such a manner and not have it received negatively.

I agree. Instead he preached about committing violence against random people because of their race.

That ain't a good look to joke about, man, I'm sorry. You see where I'm coming from with this? I wasn't a fan of his nor a hater, and I'm even willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was endeavoring to be a greater force for good. But let's not pretend that that means anything untoward that he may have done has to be rationalized away. People are mixed bags. He was a mixed bag. Probably got a wild hair and posted something he shouldn't. Seemed to have harbored some misguided racism in some way. Doesn't mean he can't have also done a lot of good (again, I have no idea). I hope he did.

My point is that this post is not preaching violence because of the joke. I’m not defending him. I’m just not making the leap of saying his goal with this post is to get white people all over country assaulted because of slavery. It’s not that serious. Was he wrong, yes.

My gosh, can you imagine a white country singer posting something like that? Their careers would be over in no time....
