Most of it is exported. Feed and ethanol production are roughly even, driving up the price of beef and chicken FYI.

I only use non-ethanol gas from QT's or the occasional Buckees.

Not doubting what you’re saying, because I’ve seen 100’s of similar examples over the years, and shite like this is a big part of why this country is approaching $40 trillion in debt.
Guess what corn industry? If there’s no market for your product then find another way to make a living just like any other normal citizen would be forced to do. shite like this is maddening to me.

Farm rent in my town went from $30 an acre to almost $200 and acre in about 3 years in the early 2000s. Now corporations are buying the land and I would guess some of the new land owners are either Wall Street or foreign owners,
Wheat, sorghum, sunflowers aren’t farmed anymore. It’s corn or soybeans, suspect land is now drained contributing to run off and flooding.

Iowa primaries are early so corn subsidies are the third rail of American politics.

Because Iowa is a swing state.
Half right. It's because Iowa goes first in party primaries and is seen as crucial for lesser known candidates to grab momentum. I'm not sure it's really that important but conventional wisdom says that it's huge.

I actually worked in a corn processing plant in Illinois almost 30 years ago. We weren’t a massive place and we were grinding around 120 million bushel of corn a year. When you hit the Illinois state line, it’s nothing but corn fields for hours. If you’ve never been all they way up I-55 it’s hard to imagine that much corn anywhere.

It’s a farce. The original greenwashing/money laundering hoax they sold us. Less efficient than pure petroleum, not close to being cost competitive without massive subsidies, ruins engines, and drives up the cost of everything from tortillas to chicken, pork, and beef.
Archer Daniels Midland and the corn farmers spend a TON of money greasing pockets in Congress. frick’em

Buy a Diesel. Better fuel economy and the engine will outlast the desire to own the vehicle. For those who say it's more polluting the diesel vehicles can go 2 years between inspection stickers in ozone non attainment parishes like EBR. I was shocked to learn this when the guy told me I was good for 2 years.
The diesels are actually cleaner he said.
Buy ethanol free for your small engines, side by sides, etc.

The only reason Iowa is not solid red is because of the subsidies. It’s a great state with great people but the people donating large amounts are in big corn and ironically big pork. 2 million people and 21 million pigs in Iowa. With that said it would be a fantastic place to live if the fishing were better.

Ted Cruz won Iowa in 2016 while campaigning against big corn and ethanol gas.

The crap kills an internal combustion engine. And takes 3 X more energy to produce. Don't ever run that stuff in any small engine. If you want it to last more than a couple of years. It's nothing but a money grab by product of the corn lobby.

You would think we could open up new markets and sell he abundance we have. Soy had that problem because they were so used to China buying it all up until that stopped

The winter isn’t that bad when you compare how awesome the summers are. Diversity is also not a strength in Iowa which seems to positively affect pretty much every thing else. I’m headed to Louisiana tomorrow to take my boys fishing for four days which is the highlight of our year and we do it every year. Iowa is literally Mayberry but the fishing is awful which kills me. My property tax is also close to $15k a year and the state income tax sucks but it seems to keep out the undesirables. My car insurance and home owners is extremely cheap so I guess it all washes. I got my parents a place up here and they only go back for 2-3 months a year and absolutely love it up here. It’s boring but you don’t have to worry with many of the things in Louisiana. I still love my home state and miss it all the time but I’m not sure I could live there again unless I retired in Grand Isle or something but I’m leaning more towards Fort Myers.
