Why are they called “developing countries”?

They aren’t developing.
Should be called non developed or just “failed”

Some are indeed developing (Nigeria, Botswana, etc), some are either stagnant or completely regressing (Zimbabwe, Suda, Chad).

Some are developing quite well. India's GDP growth has been impressive, but from my travels there I can see they will have problems with uneven development, as well as fixing the massive slums that have developed around their big cities. The term is mostly accurate, as capitalism has been a force for good since the Iron Curtain fell.

Basically. Using the term "developing " implies that those countries will eventually stop being a shithole.

The time line went like this:
3rd World was replaced by 'LDC' (less developed countries) because the term '3rd' differentiated the eastern block commies from the western democracies and then the 'unaligned'. A lot of these LDCs were aligned with Communist states.
LDC became very un-PC so they changed it to 'developing.' The shift started during the 90s because I was still reading a lot of literature that used the term 'LDC' back in the 80s.

Apparently they are developing mass transit for their populations to come to America.
