Is it just ego? A way to pass money along to their establishment friends. I look at the growing list of candidates and I have to think that most know that they have no chance.

Haley and Scott are interesting because I think that both are playing a role. I think They both are in the race to keep down the Desantis support especially in South Carolina which is set up to be the 3rd primary. This is to give the appearance that Desantis does not have momentum.

Hutchinson, Christie and somewhat Pence are in the race to attack Trump from the Republican side. They all try and come across as the Republican voice of reason like they are above the Trump BS.

Desantis is the only legit candidate to go against Trump and I think even he is not totally sold on the run, but has been talked into it.

Most are running for Cabinet, not President. And that is very apparent. Guys like Christie are looking to make a buck.

Only two guys are actually running for President.

Gonna be interesting to see how many candidate actually meet the donor thresholds to appear in the debates. There's pretty much zero groundswell of support for any candidate beyond Trump/DeSantis at the moment.

Haley and Scott will withdraw BEFORE the SC primary.

They will endorse Desantis to push Desantis over Trump.

As a matter of fact every candidate will be out before SC and endorsing Desantis.

From SC on it's Trump vs Desantis 1 vs 1.

Scott is angling for VP slot. Haley for VP or Sec of State in a Desantis admin.

This is basically the plan Democrats ran for Biden against Sanders.

See if any personality or ideas resonate with other than Trump REP voters.

Looks alot like the last DEM primary. Sanders won his share of early states, and the rest split the vote. They all backed out endorsing JB and he cleaned up on Super Tuesday and did not look back.

DT will very likely win the early state primaries with 30-35% of his party loyal followers. Rest will split the vote. They'll need to determine who is the best alternative to DT (and more importantly who can beat Biden), and everyone will bow out and back that candidate. On Super Tuesday for the REPs it will be a binary choice - DT or XXX. Put it in the books.

Will be interesting to watch unfold and of course hear all the rhetoric between now and then...

Running for the highest office in the land can be quite lucrative.

They're running for 1 of 2 reasons. First, they're all hoping that something somehow sinks the Trump campaign and that they will be in a position to pick up the mantle if he does.

Second, 8 years ago everyone was asking the same question? Why are all of these Republicans running? Jeb Bush is going to run away with the nomination. Maybe they can just emerge from the fray like Trump and take the party by storm.

Money, glory, book deals, and tv deals. Consultants are making serious cash in the primary. Trump will win. Anyone with a brain knows it. He may not be allowed to win it all, but he will be the nominee. 100%
