Studies have been done on this and it has found that sports fandom is about as close to exactly the same as possible among political affiliations.

So?

That was only half the claim.

I have liberals on my Facebook feed whom I know are sports fans. I've never seen one of them say a damn word about soccer, though.

Until the World Cup this year.

And the way they fawn over it all of a sudden is transparent. The OP may be wrong about liberals being sports fans in general, but he's not wrong at all about liberals all of a sudden finding some faux deep love for and connection with soccer.

And it's not just the liberals, I've seen people on the right do it too. But not nearly as many as those on the left.

Soccer is just not a spectator sport you all of a sudden love. It's way too fricking boring for that. You have to have played it or grown up with it in some way.

Cricket is probably the worst spectator sport in the world. And I'm sure there are some I've never heard of that could make the list. But soccer is up (down?) there on the leader board somewhere near he top (bottom?)

It's patriotic to follow your countrymen, plenty of conservatives enjoy it as well.

Maybe because it's being held here? I see conservatives more interested in it this year as well.

Maybe you're all looking for something that just isn't there.

You can have high density housing with 700 square foot apartments.

This works when you're Japanese or Korean, maybe.

I know you've not been to Asia and seen buildings full of these apartments with hundreds of units un occupied.

I'm talking about the United States. 1 bedroom apartments in the United States in the 700 square foot range have high occupancy rates. I don't really care about what the housing situation looks like in Japan or Korea or anywhere else in Asia for that matter.

I don't like or care for soccer but I watch some WC games. Trying to get into it. Been watching team usa. Watched Morocco beat the Orange last night. The best fans are already knocked out (Scotland and Netherlands)

It would be silly to assume that you're doing it for the sake of some pandering or grandstanding of course

I pulled into Hotel Dax in Addison and I guess they book in packages because they were all Sweden fans there just returning from their victory Thursday night. Most of them stuck around a couple of more days just hanging out. Friday was pretty hilarious because the pool area was packed with a crowd of the whitest white people I've ever seen. They all were telling me how much fun they were having and how great everything is here.

The harsh reality - you're simple and assume anyone that isn't exactly like you must fit neatly into a little box.

I can't imagine going through life that stupid.

The observations from OP and your list of facebook friends aren't proof of any wider trend in society. You should know that.

In his case, yes, because he's telling the truth, which is that he's "trying" to like it. (Good luck, sir).

He's not posting about the glorious "diversity" that soccer brings, which is a direct quote from the virtue signalers that I was referencing earlier.

It's more proof than you have for your claim.

So that's why none of the matches are in Philly....
