Great uncle here. I got the feeling the times he talked about were mostly about women of ill repute he dallyed with while there. These ole gals don't look very happy about the whole thing. Google image, could just be commies.

Maybe you should ask him. Many stories are lost this way.

My grandad did. He was on a carrier. He's been telling me more stories about it lately. Said he always felt bad for the boots on the ground (or beach) bc he said it was always cold and sleeting/raining everyday.

Grandfather was a machinist in an Engineering Aviation Maintenance Co (SCARWAF). They built runways.

Great uncle was on the USS Maddox. They were involved in shore bombardment and provided screening for carriers.

My great uncle got drunk when he was in the service and woke up with a propeller tattooed on each arse cheek.

It is sort of a standard across conflicts that guys who were really in the shite don't like to talk about it.

I know. Just a shame when you think how much history is lost when you don't hear these accounts.

My Dad went back into the Guard about 10 years after Vietnam. It really helped him make peace with something he loves (flying) by being able to fly Hueys without being shot at. He never talked about it for decades.

Had a few great uncles over there.

All I've ever heard any of them say about it was having to run a Korean off for skimming spilled diesel out of mud puddles.

Proud grandson of an Army vet with a Distinguished Service Cross. Merica hell yeah
Actually have a pretty cool write up of how he got his medal.
Taught me more about life, work ethic, and how to be a man than my own daddy. Don't make 'em like that anymore, fricking snowflakes
