As a track parent, I’ve been to a lot of track meets. The tent villages are kind of like home base. You leave your stuff ( phones, shoes (sometimes $250+)) an opponent should not be hanging out in your tent. There are amicable interactions but an opponent should not be hanging out in your tent.

You obviously haven't been involved with any criminal trials. People have been overcharged for ever so that they will plead down to a lesser charge though I don't believe this was a overcharge. Karmelo brought a knife and had this planned. Him telling the victim " touch me and find out" says he already knew why he brought a knife. He had the opportunity not to pull it out but decided to anyway and that meets the charge of First degree.
There is also a report that he got caught bringing a knife to school so why was he even at a school function
