we are getting dumber
This is both true and false. The lower educated/dumber population is breeding at a faster rate than the smart ones, however we the upper levels are getting smarter. There are just too few of them to offset the massive invasion of dumb people reproducing.
I would suggest non-permanent sterilization of those below the poverty line. People who cannot support themselves should not bring a life into this world.

If I was 25, I'd probably look at relocating to the former soviet bloc. Poland, Hungary, Russia. Learn the language. Start a business. Marry a local. Or perhaps learn Spanish and move to Chile. The problem with that is that many of the Spanish speaking countries aren't particularly good places to live, and they haven't been innoculated against communism like the former eastern bloc.
You're going to have to think outside the box to have a good life. The fundamental problem you face is that the "soviets" are in charge of our institutions now, and that you're old enough that the existing systems will completely break down bu the time you need them in the next 25-30 years without their replacements coming in to place...and the chickens will likely have come home to roost with respect to the purchasing power of our formerly great currency.
Trump's election was our last chance, and while some good things have been done, the dramatic course reversals we needed to make to fix things didn't happen.

Dude if the American experiment goes up in flames there will be nowhere in the world to hide. We are the last and only hope.

over the next 50-60 years, these are the main things that I think will define society
- the fight for UBI
- genetic engineering
- AI rights
I'm sure are completely off and the real things are things that I cannot even conceive of at this point, but those are 3 things that I think will be big battles within my lifetime

Fall like France where you invite in a bunch of muslims to kill your native population, or fall like Venzuela where you run out of food and donkeys to eat? Does it matter?

I think automation will lead to that

Don't forget body armor and a bug out lair. At age 25, you're going to need things like that, either because you're going to be dealing with life in North Venezuela, or you're going to be in the streets fighting with armed patriots trying to prevent that outcome.

I think genetic engineering has huge potential for class warfare.
Imagine the rich and elite being able to choose their kids IQs, their athleticism, their looks, the personalities, their immunity to diseases, etc.
Now imagine that technology trickling down, slowly to the upper class, then to upper middle, and so down.
The lower class will get left behind more than it is now. They will not be able to compete at all.

Openly embracing socialism is the biggest shift in either of our lifetimes, our parents as well

Since we've reduced corporate tax rates, I'm actually very enthusiastic about our future.
We could easily screw this up though.

Honestly, I don't even know if the government will be that powerful in the future.
With the way the internet is going, we could be seeing greater decentralization of many things.
Crypto currency is just the beginning.

I think it'll become more powerful as more and more people are displaced out of work by tech
Crypto is the future for those who actually understand it, which is a sliver of the population

There is a lot of really small thinking in this thread.
It's like their minds are completely limited to "Liberals are bad"

I try to give pep talks where i Can to my self and friends when they bring this up. I have the same thoughts. But just think about how long humans have been on this planet and how much your own ancestors went through so that you could be alive today. Love your wife, hug your children. If you are a Christian, study the Word. Go out and recomnect with nature and ground yourself. These are the things that will outlive you and are bigger than anyone of us. Plan for the future and keep the grand scheme of things in perspective.
