Good post. Upvoted.

I know Trump is the product of his upbringing, but whether you like him or hate him, he has started a movement to bring government back to the people.

Is it lasting, or temporary?

My LP missed the best opportunity in decades to make a dent. And there were a couple of good people running for the nomination.

The party establishment will try and back weld in 2020 and at that point I will no longer be a due paying card holder.

It will take a Rand or Thomas Massie type to run as a libertarian or for things to go really bad to have a shot.

If Austin Peterson pulls the upset in the primary he will beat the incumbent. At which point I can see him running as a libertarian later down the road.

The 2 current parties have pretty much made it legally impossible since they are the ones who enact the laws in the 1st place.

They have not made it overtly illegal, instead they made it too cumbersome. At the state level registrations and balloting and such eliminate 3rd parties. On the national level campaign finance and methods laws/regs stifle it.

Throw the media into the mix. Include the implantation of govt. agents that spy on and manipulate the media (remember how that came out in the last election cycle and then the release of all the JFK files? CIA/FBI been inside media organizations since the 50's at least to control narratives)

"The system" is fully and completely entrenched. Would take a total breakdown and start from scratch to change it.

In our current system of winner take all, first past the post elections, you won't have a stable 3 party system. It's just human psychology. The spoiler effect means that voting for a smaller 3rd party who better represents your interests will hurt you politically by making it more likely the person you most don't want to see gets elected instead.

So we will only have a stable 3+ party system if we use something like the alternative vote (automatic runoff system).

We have a governing third party right now. It's called nationalism.

That just sounds to me like a takeover of one of the parties. It's not a third party if voting for regular GOP isn't an option.

Both parties realize having a monopoly over 50% of the country is more profitable than 33% and so on. GOPe and Democrats have traded principles for a political power trust

Well since a third party couldn't legitimately win an election, maybe this was the only way to do it. But now that people see that both parties are corrupted, and an outsider can prosper, maybe this will open doors to future third party candidates?

You do realize that Trump is the "third" party candidate. He is legitimate enough for me. He took over the repub party. That is why dems dislike him and RINOs dislike him. He is not part of the Deep State Swamp. The RINOs lose the repub party, and want Trump gone as bad as the dems. That's why RR and Muller are still investigating. They want Trump gone, and will not quit until they make an example out of him. They plan to use intimidation to stop Trump in 2020. If they intimidate enough people who worked on Trumps campaign they will cripple his re-election campaign.
Support the take over of the repub party. Even if you don't like the repub, vote for them holding your nose. At least some pressure can be placed on them to help Trump. ALL dems will 100% oppose Trump on just about everything to their own demise.

America: We hate the two party system, but refuse to vote for a third party.

It's like George Washington said (and I'm paraphrasing), when law-abiding people fear the government, things are out of whack.

And I always heard he said political parties would be the downfall of this nation.

Mr Aleppo killed the chance

Third parties will not stand a chance as long as the main stream media are against them and they are not allowed on the debate stage.

That Aleppo question was a hit piece on Johnson to kill all his credibility. Granted, he probably should have been able to handle it better, but the question was completely out of left field and had no relation the conversation they were having at the time. It was also probably one of the only times I had heard a candidate asked about Aleppo directly, rather than just asking about the crisis in Syria.

The biggest thing in making a 3rd party relevant would be getting on the presidential debate stage, but the Republicans and the Democrats control that process and want no one else on the debate stage.

You all need to pay attention, he is hated by the ruling class.

Where do you get these delusions? Trump as the underdog delusion is just bizarre. He has paid off politicians and IS the ruling class. Politicians serve the interests of the most elite and most wealthy members of our society. Need to put the Alex Jones and Q Anon stuff down. It's warping your brain

Aren’t the Libertarians already on the way to being another party?

They’ve been mentioned by name In the media and the spotlight has grown larger as well. It’s a slow process, but I think the wheel is already rolling for a third party, IMO

A legit 3rd party did arise while all the Dems and GOPe cucks were sucking each other off.

It is called the America First Party.

Perfect answer.

Agree to some extent, but is the America First movement sustainable, or does it collapse when Trump leaves office?
