I do recall the Polak jokes. They were funny and plentiful.
What is really crazy is how of all countries, Poland, is the smartest when it comes to immigration and suicidal empathy when it comes to the security of their country and protecting it from Muslim invasion.

Slavs are viewed as sort of dumb white trash by Western Europeans. Back then majority of Americans were of Western European descent. Similar to how Italians and Irish were treated/viewed
Also the show All in the Family was popular in the late 70s and Archie was notoriously prejudiced against polish (and others) so the jokes probably came from some of that
