I in noway believe the average IQ of Poli board posters is 139.5 lol.

I promise you it's not. There are some straight up mouth breathers posting on here, and that goes for all political affiliations.

quote:I actually believed your test score because it was taken at a young age, and the development of the abilities, the behaviors that can impact the scores, and the ceiling and floor effects of the scores make them more prone to exteme scores.
just fwiw, my test was done by a psychologist in 1st grade to test me into Gifted. so i was about 6 or so
my mom hid the score from me for a LONG time, too. she wouldn't even let me get ahead in school when i had the opportunity
Now I couldn't find the scores limits of the previous versions decades ago, but most tests designate the upper bound limit at 160 and lower bound limit at 40, +/- 4 standard deviations, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually a 160 instead of 161.
Regardless there are at least 2 people who reported scores well above my own, whose views I frequently disagree with completely. In particular, the poster with the far higher reported score is a poster, I can't recall ever agreeing with him/her, but I also rarely even see the basis (even emotional) of his/her reasoning.
So either he/she is telling the truth, and my IQ is also even lower than tested, or that person is probably lying.

if every post in this thread was simply an IQ posted by a unique individual poster, by this point we still wouldn't be close to being done. people may be lying, but manay are just peacocking. those who have no reason to lie or don't want to discuss their IQ aren't posting.
the IQ of this board is certainly above 100, though. maybe even 110. i mean if you just look at our rate of posters with post-bac degrees, it would look other worldly compared to the general population.

There are highly intelligent people on both sides of the political aisle. It's easy to assume we disagree with people because they are stupid (sometimes they are ) but there's a lot more that goes into forming an opinion on a subject aside from raw intellect.

Well your 139 brought it down to 139.45. You dummy. Of course, I didn't include mine because it would bring it down a lot more.
Apparently when I'm called an idiot on here, it's true in comparison to the genius level intellect of the board as a whole.
Remove a few outliers and I believe the true mean IQ of the Poli board would be mid 90s .
Meaning, for example, take out me on the high end and Machine on the low end (seriously that dude's 45 would really skew the results)

And that looks like it would require an IQ score of at least a 146.
Triple Nine requires an IQ of 1 in 1,000 or 99.9th percentile. This is about 3 S.D.'s above the norm. The exact IQ score will depend on the S.D. of the test in question. On the WAIS-R, it would be about 145. On the Stanford-Binet, it would be about 148. On the Cattell, it would be 172. They also accept SAT/GRE scores (from decades ago as the modern versions aren't as g loaded).
I was a member of a few IQ societies many years ago. It was fun for a while, but the discussions usually turned to a dick measuring contest and that got old. The older I get, the more I realize that high intelligence doesn't mean a whole lot in the real world. Most of the IQ society (Mensa) types are, quite frankly, losers. People who accomplish a lot in life aren't members of said groups (Issac Asimov is one exception).

i used to take IQ tests as a hobby in high school
this asian friend of mine would challenge me. now they were online so they skewed high but i consistently got in the mid 150s by that point. they were the timed, pattern-based tests, too. once i took a test based on my "verbal intelligence" or something and it was all just stupid vocab-based bullshite. they estimated my IQ at retarded (b/c i don't have a good vocabulary, esp for an educated person)

I certainly buy in that the average IQ on the board well above 100, for the reasons you've given, but ~140? That's pretty damn high.
Posted on 10/11/17 at 12:11 pm to CptRusty
yeah but you're talking about a super selective portion of the total population (that is already skewed highly)
the posters with the 100-ish IQs aren't going to flood this thread to possibly position themselves to be called retarded
*ETA: and within that super selective group within a super selective group, some ARE lying

that's 10 scores reported (161, 161, 146, 145, 141, 131, 130, 129, 126, 125) with an average score of 139.5.
Who knew the [self-reported] poliboard was basically a class of Astronaut candidates or Microsoft developers?

Of course they are, and they are going to post such things as "I scored so high I was invited to join MENSA but I Turned those nerds down"
It's called lying bro.

While 139 is high, this board has quite a few lawyers and tech types. I wouldn't be surprised if they have IQs over 120.
The reality is for most professionals.if you met someone with an IQ of 100, you would think they are a drooling moron.

I've been in my fair share of gifted programs as a kid and my education background is well above average... but I'm honestly scared to take an IQ test.

working as an attorney who represents "normal people", i see this all the time, especially from educated people within the "system"
often judges and clerks have no earthly idea what life is like for these people and their brains are completely warped by their social surroundings. in my area court costs, for example, are INSANE in some courts. like $750 for an arraignment plea to possession of weed. that's like a month's salary for these people
